It amazes me how a song can get stuck in my head. I had never heard it before and yet, having heard it the once, it was as if it was on “repeat” in my mind. The words, full of God’s truth, bathed my mind and brought strength to me for the task ahead. The melody, calm and peaceful, infused me with “Faith” – my one word for 2014. The combination of both words and melody deposited in me the courage I needed in order to step forward in obedience.
And yesterday I did. The questions in my mind still hovering and at times, a bit on the loud side, if I may be honest. I would take those doubts captive by remembering the song and continued forward.
Yesterday was a lesson learned for me.
When He bids me, “Come”, He truly does come with me.
But there were other lessons besides. Did I already share He is an amazing teacher, who can teach multiple lessons, in and through one experience?
- He goes before and with. “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (Deuteronomy 31:8). Don’t miss that it is the Lord Himself that goes before you. And with you. We are told not to be afraid or discouraged, both of which will keep us from moving forward.
- He is our anchor in the storms of life. He will hold us steadier than we ever could hold ourselves or think possible. “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” (Hebrews 6:19).
- He provides exactly what we need. No more. No less. Each day He is our portion, filling us with all that we need for the 24 hours that stretch before mus. “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (Psalm 73:26). He’s it – He is all we need.
He bids us “Come” for a variety of reasons. But here’s the truth….When He says “Come” and we obey …
We take His yoke. We learn from Him. And we find rest.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
(Matthew 11:28-30, NIV)

Marissa
Marissa – I am not sure where I have been, lol, but I only recently heard it. God knew when I needed it! It is beautiful.
I love this song!
So funny. Apparently so many knew this song & yet it was new to me. This has made me realize the timing of our God in each of our lives. Amazing!
I love it when you talk and share music! Music is the art that speaks to me, friend.
Lori – I could talk music all the time 🙂 It truly is what speaks to my heart as well. Just ask my kids about music & the volume in my car. Although perhaps, when they were younger & I also did daycare and there were 6 of them in the van, it drowned them all out, lol. And I know you can relate to that. Thank you for your transparency in your posts. I should probably send you an email to let you know how God has used your writing to change my heart in so many ways. I am grateful He made you exactly as you are. You are a blessing!
