Life brings changes to all of us yet I do not do well with change. My ideal life would be one where life pretty much stays the course. You know what I mean…. a life where each day maintains a constant, unaltering course, perfectly navigated, heading towards the goal. No bumps. No swells. Smooth sailing.
So it should not come as a surprise when life presents a change, I struggle. I struggle before God to know His will. And I do mean struggle. A life change, or an impacting decision, brings me to my knees. For a long time. I weigh a decision from every angle, much the way I look at my diamond to see its many facets. I ask God for signs, often coming close to getting my wooly fleece out on the lawn like Gideon. I read Scriptures. Lots of them. But mostly, I pray asking God for discernment to guide my thoughts and way.
Over the years, I have learned…
- God truly does intervene. God does open doors and I have learned, He also closes doors. I like it so much more when He opens doors. Closing doors can be painful.
- Remembering makes life easier. As I take the time to remember God’s faithfulness in my life, it becomes easier for me to have faith (yeah, there is my one word again!) that He will continue to lead me.
- He writes on my heart. This is a realization that hit me as I wrote on Friday for Five Minute Friday. So thank you (!!!) Lisa Jo for the prompt on “Write”. While I may have written only for five minutes, God continued weaving in my thoughts for days. And here is what He has been assuring me …. As I continue to grow in my knowledge of who God is; and continue to use the gifts He has given me; and ask Him to align the desires of my heart with His so that I honor Him — He works His will in my life.
In need of some reassurance today?
“The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you”. (Psalm 32:8, NLT)
“This is what the Lord says – your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is good for you and leads you along the paths you should follow.” (Isaiah 48:18, NLT)

Thank you my friend. It’s comforting to know that God has a plan for my life. Have a blessed week!
Barbie – we so need to be reminded, don’t we? Praying you continue to be assured He not only has the plan, He is also working it out in your life! Blessings.
Excellent post, this is exactly what I needed today. I suffer from what my Pastor calls “paralysis from analysis.” Like you were explaining above, I examine all angles and completely tire myself out….if I would just be still and listen to what God is trying to show or teach me, their would be no need for fret. Thank you for your post!
It is so true that we can paralyze ourselves with all of our analysis. May we just rest in Him – the One who holds the plans!
I’m so glad we don’t have to go through life alone! God is always with us…and He is always faithful! I love how you wrote that “remembering makes your life easier”. So true! When we remember what God has done, our hope for what He is doing is renewed!
Blessings, Joan
Joan, your comment brought to mind the very old song, “Count your blessings, name them one by one. Count your blessings, see what God has done. Count your blessings, name them one by one. Count your many blessings, see what God has done.” I love that the last line says “many blessings” for it is in the remembering that we realize how many we truly have been blessed with! So grateful for your comment.
