{{It is Friday. Today I link with Lisa Jo Baker for Five Minute Friday. Here is how it works…. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. Everyone writes on the same word. Equals a great time.}}
The word today is …. Visit.
Reading the word immediately took me back years. We would visit every Tuesday. Most times there were three of us, some weeks four. We had our children and we would meet at her house for dinner. Dinner….we were young, in our 20’s and truly did not have much. The menu often consisted of whatever each of us had in our refrigerator and pantries. We’d each bring something and then cook it together. We fed our kids first and while they played, the moms enjoyed the feast.
The feast being the visit and conversation, not the food.
We would have coffee or tea while sitting in the living room with our Bibles opened on our laps. We would continue to share about our lives, our thoughts, the Scriptures that were meaningful to us in the past week, our problems. We would pray together before parting ways. And we did this for several years, pretty regularly. Being young, we were convinced these visits would not only solve our problems but probably the world’s as well.
Almost 29 years have passed since those visits. And those times together are just as meaningful now as they were then. The memories forever etched in my mind. They were precious visits as we shared and cried and prayed each week. Some problems were solved, truly not by us, but by a God Who responded to the prayers of those few women coming together.
Visits – sacred moments in time.
“I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you. For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.” (Matthew 18:19-20, NLT)

I loved this post! I am in my 30’s. Our group meets at 8:00 at night, after all the kids are in bed and the husbands are left in charge. We visit at the coffee shop or at one of our houses. We study His word. These relationships are priceless.
Cherish the time & hold them close to your heart. It is amazing these visits will bless you time & time again over the years. Blessings!
Wonderful. Love to hear about others who spend weekly time with friends sharing their hearts and learning to lean on a God who loves them more than words can express. The strength of knowing God has put those women, and their families in my path is amazing, what a gift. Thank you for sharing
Marissa
You are so right, Marissa. The women & families that God places in our lives is a gift. We truly receive strength & encouragement from one another. Thank you for sharing with me!
Sacred moments indeed. How blessed you were to have such community as a young mother! Joining friends over a meal is one of my most favorite things to do. Such strong bonds are built in the everyday tasks of living. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful weekend!
There is more than just bread that is passed around a table! So grateful for those extra nuggets I have received over the years. Blessings on your weekend too!
I so enjoyed this post! Mat 18:19-20 is so powerful – though sometimes we have to implement this on purpose.
Julie, I absolutely agree with you. There are times we must push ourselves to get out there & be in community. So very true!
Thank you for sharing such a precious memory! What a wonderful thing to model for all of your children! I remember visiting different families from church when I was growing up. It was such a wonderful feeling of belonging.
Thank you for linking up on Friday at Beauty Observed! I so appreciate your participation!
It truly does make for wonderful memories & fosters such a sense of belonging. And we all so need that each day. I have enjoyed linking at Beauty Observed! May God bless & continue to grow it each week!
Holly, I too have been part of a fellowship like this in the past and I truly miss it now. You have described how much of a blessing it can be beautifully.
Thanks for sharing at Essential Fridays.
Blessings
