I have always known that God was mighty. Able. Victorious. I know but it does not stop me from wondering, from questioning. Even from doubting at various times in my life.
I have wondered what to say when life seems to be falling apart. When:
- it is time to file for bankruptcy
- the baby you are carrying may not be born healthy
- you have cancer
- the company no longer needs your position
- surgery is the only hope
- when one hears the words, “I don’t love you any longer.”
And then there are simpler times which can also seem like the world is falling apart. You know those days ….. the toilet backs in while the dishwasher makes loud noises and the heat won’t come up. Your kid is having the epic meltdown of the century because you cut their sandwich into squares instead of triangles. The baby has a poopy diaper that explodes in every direction leaving you wondering how did it all stay contained inside that little body? While your changing the diaper, the phone is ringing and you can’t get to it in time. And the migraine begins, pounding harder with each move you make and the light just pierces your eyes like daggers. And, YES, this is all happening at the same time.
Your only response at those times is to feel as if you are falling apart.
Recently I read this verse and my eyes were opened ….
For by him all things were created; things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. (Colossians 1:16-17, NIV)
Seeing as I am visible and am on earth, those words – “all things” were created by Him—include me. And if I truly believe this then I have to be believe the last part as well – in Him all things hold together.
You know those days we thought we were losing it? We were falling apart?
He was holding those days together.
He was holding us together.
Circumstances may be painful. They may not be the road we would have wanted. But He is right there with us. He has never lost sight of us. I may not have understood it all but He knew completely.
In Him all things hold together.
In Him, I am held together.
And so are you.

Your photo of the broken dishes reminded me of our lives before Christ. He is able to make us all new again with no visable scars. Thank you for sharing with us here at “Tell Me a Story.”
Hazel, Yes, He is able to make all things new. I have also found that sometimes He leaves a scar behind as a reminder to me of His faithfulness to me. What has amazed me that while I know it is there, there is no pain connected to it any longer which causes me to praise Him all the more. May you have a blessed Thanksgiving!
So very, very true! He holds me together, and without Him I am certain I would just fly apart! Praise Him for His care and strength. Heart Hugs, Shelly <3
