It started with a simple conversation about vacations and the sights we had each seen. We talked mountains, bears, elks, frozen lakes, fish. It was then that I remembered.
We had taken a cruise a few years back. We had taken cruises before but this was the first time that we would be at sea for several days.
How does one capture the vastness that lies before your eyes for days?
There are no words to describe the feeling of not seeing a thing, not a single thing, but water for days. No land. No shore far off in the distance. No clouds. No birds.
Just water.
Waves.
As far as the eye can see.
My mind was at such a loss to describe the feeling, the wonderment of realizing that water as far reaching as the horizon also meant water equally as deep. My mind could not truly wrap itself around what was truly immeasurable. To get up for two mornings and look out and confirm water was still all that could be seen was incomprehensible.
And it all spoke of a Creator, a God that was majestic beyond my understanding or ability to grasp.
It boasted of a God, Who Alone, holds the oceans in their place.
Who kept the sea inside its boundaries as it burst from the womb, and as I clothed it with clouds and wrapped it in thick darkness? For I locked it behind barred gates, limiting its shores. I said, “This far and no farther will you come. Here your proud waves stop!” (Job 38: 8-11, NLT)
My God can hold an ocean back with one little shore.
Today I am joining Unite and Soli Deo Gloria and Tell Me A Story and Teach Me Tues. and Titus 2 Tues. and Momma Notes and Titus 2sdays .
Joanne…I so totally relate to this…my first experience was on a deep-sea fishing boat many years ago and then again in 2005 when we went on a cruise. There is no way to describe the awesomeness and vastness of how big God really is. I am blown away by this. Thanks for the reminder today 🙂
Although I don’t get to see it often (we live in the midwest), I love the ocean. It’s wild beauty speaks of freedom to my soul. How can we look at it and not be in awe of our Creator God?! 🙂 Thanks for sharing this at the Unite link-up.
I love the book of Job. I don’t think there is anywhere in Scripture where we can go to find a better description of God than in Job.
Perhaps it is because when we are stripped of everything but Him, we see Him & His activity a whole lot clearer. And Job certainly was left stripped. So many lessons to learn from him! So glad to see a comment from you today 🙂
This leaves me ready to go spend time at the ocean. It is truly a place where the amazement of all He created is felt. Blessings to you and {Hugs}.
I am beginning to think He can amaze us anywhere if we only have eyes that are willing to see Him. Be amazed today, my friend! He loves you!
No cruises for me … but I love looking at all that beautiful water.
Fondly,
Glenda
My first boat ride was the ferry between Oakland and San Francisco in 1936 when the ferries were still running. I remember that water looking so green. (not blue). Perhaps it was the bay and not the ocean. When the new heavens and earth are ready, there will not be any more ocean. There is a lot of land under that water. Thank you for sharing with us here at “Tell Me a Story.”
Love what you shared here! Thank you for being so faithful to host the link up & also visit!
