It’s been days of returning to the prophets and reading their words. Yesterday I shared Habakkuk’s words (HERE) and the way his words point to the unchanging qualities of our God. He is wise, just, faithful, eternal, and always at work.

This morning another prophet brought the reminder of our desperate need for a new view of God.

In the year of King Uzziah’s death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple.” (Isaiah 6:1, NASB)

Isaiah caught a glimpse of who God is – in His majesty, authority, and position. The vision renewed his confidence in the sovereignty of God.

As Isaiah renewed his view of God, God then responded to him, giving Isaiah another glimpse into His heart.

“Can a woman forget her nursing child and have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, but I will not forget you.” (Isaiah 49:15, NASB)

God reminds us of the heart of mother. Her ears are ever attuned for the cries of her baby to be fed, to be changed, or to be comforted.

We begin to time any other chore or activity around the needs of our babies. We don’t want to be preoccupied to the point of overlooking their needs.

Looking at this verse more intently, God desires to reveal to us more than just the heart of a mother. He is wanting to reveal His own heart towards each of us.

God is never preoccupied or distracted in any way to cause Him to be forgetful of any one of us. He sees all that is occurring and lays heavy on our hearts. Much the way a mother waits for the next cries of her infant, God anticipates our cries for help as well.

God promises to always care for us,
to have compassion on us,
and to never forget us.
