Do you think of yourself in terms of a saint? This is our identity in Jesus and yet I don’t think I remember this often enough.
“To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling, with all who in every place call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours.” (1 Corinthians 1:2, NASB)
Paul, in his writings, addressed the people as “saints” and used it to define those who are believers. One quality of a saint is they are to be holy.
“Holy” describes something or someone set apart for the Lord. Holiness requires a separation or cutting off from the common or impure.”

Being holy requires something from us. It requires us to recognize we are in the world but are to separate from the world. Yet God places us in the world for His purposes.
I will admit I don’t often think of myself in terms as a “saint”, nor do I think of myself as “holy.” Today’s reading was a good one for me to have in front of me.
Paul’s words are a good reminder that we have been called by God, and we have been made holy by means of Christ. This is both a blessing and a privilege.
We live in the hope of the ongoing work of God in our lives. We live out this process of becoming through the work of sanctification. We need to remind ourselves – this is a daily work.
We have to shape our hearts and minds to think godly. It’s a work we get to join God in doing in our lives.
“He leads us to shape our minds into godliness, chisel away destructive habits, and pay attention to the details.”

We must follow and obey His lead as He works in us. We cannot lose hope or give up on ourselves when we fall, falter, or fail.
In our fallen state, we seek meaning, purpose, and identity on our own terms. We look inside ourselves in an attempt to discover who we are.
God wants us to look up, to look to Him, so He can show us who He already knows we can become.
“Saint, become who you were meant to be!”
