Hidden in the pages of 1 Chronicles, is a father’s charge to his son. OK, so it is a king giving instruction to his successor, making it even more interesting. It is David leaving some last thoughts to his son, Solomon, before giving him his throne.

In the midst of telling him that he will build the temple, David also gives him the details of the structure. David continues to tell Solomon to take the building of the sanctuary seriously. He tells him, “Be strong & do the work.” (verse 10b).

“Do the work.”

That is it in a nutshell. Don’t think it is going to be an easy thing being the King. Be prepared to get your hands dirty. Get up every day & do what lies before you. Do the work.

Sometimes what God calls us to do in our lives will be….well….     demanding. It will require focus. Determination. Grit. Hard work. Just because it does not come easily does not mean that it is not meant of God. There are times He requires us “to do the work.”

David continues to explain to his son, “Every part of this plan was given to me in writing from the hand of the Lord.” (verse 19). The plan was from God Himself & yet the task facing Solomon was going to    require Solomon to do the work.

“Then David continued, “Be strong & very courageous, and do the work. Don’t be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. He will see to it that all the work related to the Temple of the Lord is finished correctly.” (verse 20 NLT).

Just because it is the plan of God does not mean that we will not face discouragement or be afraid. Sometimes fulfilling the plan of God will take courage on our part. Notice that God was going to be with Solomon until all the work was finished & finished correctly. God was not going to leave the project midway.

Know that He will not leave you nor forsake you either. Our God leaves no project incomplete…..

“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ      Jesus returns.” (Philippians 1:6 NLT).

So be strong & very courageous & “Do the work.”
