Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Announce.
The dictionary defines the word as “to make known publicly or officially.”
The angel did an effective job of making the coming birth of Christ known. He made several announcements. To Zacharias, he said:
“The angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.” (Luke 1:19, NASB)
And to the shepherds, he said:
“But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people … “ (Luke 2:10, NASB)
The birth of Christ was described in each announcement as “Good News” and as I type those words, the lyrics come to mind:
“Good news, good news
An angel brings good news
Good news, good news
I meet you with good news.”(from the song, “Good News”, as sung by Avalon)
In a time when all that is going on around us is discouraging, we need Good News. We must fight to hold onto our faith, not letting the world drain us of our faith or hope.
May we remember anew the promise we have been given in a Savior who came to us to bring us good news!

Today I am joining …
Yes, it’s quite discouraging,
the news we get on the TV,
but it may just help to bring
perspective unto what we see
when we recall the persecution
of believers, then and now,
even unto execution
of those who dare to guide the plow.
We were promised no rose garden,
not a bit of earthly bliss,
but if we let our scared hearts harden
then, my friend, we’re sure to miss
the small and faith-affirming graces
hid in unexpected places.
Thank you for sharing Joanne! I like your insight about the angel making it known publicly! It was official! Your blog is beautiful by the way! Merry Christmas!
Thank you for sharing. The Good News is relevant today as it ever was!!

Yes, indeed, we need good news.
Thanks for sharing.
News is off limits in our house – it is enough to know that the world is falling apart and the coming of Jesus is coming together!!! I choose to believe the second part!
