If ever there was opportunity to struggle with anxiety, it has been the past sixteen months. The pandemic has changed the way we live, interact, go to school, work, and church.
So how are we to win the battle with worry and anxiety?
Bethany House recently released “100 Best Bible Verse to Overcome Worry & Anxiety”. They have gathered together 100 Scriptures which give wise counsel and comfort, making this a wonderful book to reach for when worried or overwhelmed.
Each selection shares the verse at the top of the page. Context and meaning are provided to help the reader understand the verse more fully. Application is also included to help better utilize the Scripture in practical life situations. Each reading closes with additional Scripture references to further one’s understanding.
A few of my favorite thoughts were:
“God doesn’t say there’s something wrong with you if you have anxiety. He is saying, “Give it all to me. I really do care about you.” (page 6)
“We don’t need to know what’s weighing us down; we just need to respond to his three simple yet powerful words: “Come to me ….” (page 10)
“God is … our strength.” It is not we who are strong in the face of loss or fear, but God who is strong on our behalf. And he is not far away but “ever-present.” He is our help. He is our safe place. He is our strength.” (page 50)
“Peace comes to our hearts and minds when we refocus our gaze on our just Father, instead of the evil around us. He allows us the ability to delight, and he satisfies us there.” (page 107)
“Faith is not a vague feeling or concept, but a rooted confidence in who Christ is and a trust that God is who he says he is, and that his promises will come to pass.” (page 156)
This book has been compiled by a group of writers and is a wonderful gift and source of encouragement in these uncertain days in which we are living.

Today I am joining …
This is timely! I have a close family member struggling with anxiety. I am definitely going to check out this book.
I think the last excerpt hits the nail on the head, we must “trust that God is who he says he is.” If He is, then we can have confidence in Him.
(Just so you know, I 100% believe He is who He says He is!)
I am so glad the book review was timely. I found the book to be such a comfort to me and I think it will be a good resource in the days ahead as well.
And … I, too, believe 100% He is who He says He is! And … He can do what He says He can do! So very grateful we have an amazing faithful and powerful God.
This sounds like a wonderful resource. What a great exercise to steep our souls God’s truth over 100 days specifically to battle anxiety.
Yes, that is it, Barbara. Our souls need to be steeped in truth to combat anxiety. The more steeped, the stronger we will be!
These are great quotes, and it sounds like this will be a helpful book for many people. Fear and anxiety are such big issues at the moment.
Anxiety has been a battle for so many over this last year. I really appreciated Barbara’s thoughts above. Our souls need to be steeped in God’s truth to remain strong and steadfast in these changing days.
