Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Sunrise.
Sunrise … “the rise or ascent of the sun above the horizon in the morning” (dictionary.com).
It’s my favorite time of day. It’s quiet, still, and dark. There is a sense of anticipation, a wondering what the day will hold.
The sun comes up every day, at a slightly different time, in a slightly different place but it always appears.
Sunrise is filled with expectation and hope. Hope of what can be and opportunities to come. It represents starting anew and yet there is a feeling of familiarity.
Sunrise is before me like a clean slate waiting to be filled with beauty, joys, and the words God will bring across my path.
It is also the time to bring my requests and prayer needs to the Lord.
“In the morning, Lord, You will hear my voice; In the morning I will present my prayer to You and be on the watch.” (Psalm 5:3, NASB)
I once read a prayer but did not jot down the source:
“I come before you, O Lord.
As the sun rises may Your hope rise up in me.
As the birds sing may Your love flow out of me.
As the light floods into this new day,
May Your joy shine through me.
I come before You, O Lord
And drink in this moment of peace,
That I may carry something of Your hope, love, and joy
Today in my heart.
Amen.”
Today I am joining …
Beautiful. Thanks for these words and the reminder to allow the hope and love of God, Our Father, to flow in and out of us!

“Sunrise is filled with expectation and hope. Hope of what can be and opportunities. It represents starting anew and yet there is a feeling of familiarity.” I really love this comment.
Hope arising. AMEN.
I’m with you: I love the stillness of sunrise. That is the word I most often use. It is a special time of day. What a gift and blessing.

The stillness of the desert morn,
so precious and so true…
I love the way these days are born
and then I hear the MOO!
from the cow who’s just outside
(she nimbly jumped the fence)
and forgetting all my pride
and my common sense
I rush out in my scant nightclothes;
Barb’s garden is at risk!
And although the sunrise glows
the morning air is brisk
and I dance keep-warm flamenco
while cow eats Barbara’s desert willow.
Oh no – I hope Barb’s garden survives!
Sorry I got slightly distracted by the colour of thank sky in your photo!
Love this- Sunrise is before me like a clean slate waiting to be filled with beauty, joys, and the words God will bring across my path.

🙂 Believe me – the colors of each sunrise distract me too!
Amen Joanne, so beautifully spoken. Blessings.

You’ve said it better than I could. Such hope and anticipation come with every new dawn. This is the day I will grow closer to Jesus 🙂 (something I yearn to do every day).
