There is no denying we are living in unprecedented times which can fill our hearts and minds with uncertainty, and anxiety. Psalms For the Anxious Heart, by Becky Harling, is the perfect devotional for these days.
There are thirty meditations, each one originating from a psalm, bringing words of hope and peace when anxiety would seek to overwhelm our souls.
Each reading includes a few verses, a devotional thought, a question to reflect on, a truth, a selected worship song, and a closing prayer.
This is a wonderful resource to help us shift our focus above our current circumstances to the Almighty One who has all things in His control.
A few of my favorite truths which I was reminded were:
- “You are never alone. God’s presence goes before, behind, above, and beneath you. He will never leave you nor forsake you.” (page 27)
- “When times are uncertain, remember you have a very sure hope. You are intrinsically connected to God, safe and secure in His treasure pouch.” (page 46)
- “Discouragement often precedes enlargement in terms of impact and fruitfulness.” (page 79)
- “Praise is a choice. We can choose to praise God and keep our thoughts captive to truth by an act of our will, even when life feels uncertain.” (page 115)
Each reading is short, delivering a word to cling to when life seems uncertain and uncontrollable. There are additional verses which are noted to further ones’ reading as time allows. One will find their soul at peace as you discover the presence of God, and seek Him in His Word.
“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:7-8, NLT)
The book is beautifully and perfectly written for such a time as this. It blessed me deeply and I have purchased several and sent them as gifts. This is a devotional to be read again and again for its message will never grow old.

Today I am joining … Heart Encouragement and Let’s Have Coffee and Booknificent Thursday .
This sounds like a good and much-needed resource. I’ve found that in times of anxiety or deep concern, a short reading like that with something definite to hold onto helps much more than a long discourse.
This sounds like a book I need to read, and I can think of a few others who would benefit too. Thanks for sharing about it!
This book sounds amazing. Thank you for sharing it with us. I love the truths that you pulled from it. Maree
