Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. The prompt this week is … People.
The prompt has had me sitting and thinking in the quietness for about thirty five minutes now. People are amazing as we come in so many shapes and sizes, housing equally as many thoughts and emotions. Behaviors and personalities are unique to each one with some making us laugh till our sides hurt, while others can make us cry. Some are thought provoking and others make us wonder exactly if they are thinking at all.
No matter the people, I still hold to the thought that people are amazing. Some humble us and point us to Jesus.
Over the last few months, I have had the privilege to attend two prayer meetings on Zoom with several others. Gathered on my screen were both men and women. Two were from Canada, four from the U.S., and the remainder were men from four different countries in Africa.
We were all as different as could possibly be, yet we had one thing in common – our love for Jesus, each other, and our people.
This morning I am reminded of these words God spoke to Moses about His people:
“Now if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me. And you will be my kingdom of priests, my holy nation.” (Exodus 19:5-6, NLT)
God called His people to be the ones to carry His message of reconciliation, forgiveness, and salvation to all the earth. And He still is calling us …
” … for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9, NLT)
We are His chosen people.
May we live to shine His Light into this dark world.
Lovely Joanne! We are a chosen people! xx
As frustrating, disappointing, or even hurtful people really can be in our lives, when I allow God to change my perspective – and seek to see this world through His eyes – how precious and special “people” become!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts this morning. I hope you have a great weekend!!
amen. beautiful words. thank you <3
I’ve been thinking about this verse a lot lately, and trying to find some solid books that talk about the priesthood of all believers. We have not been chosen just for our own benefit, but for the benefit of all people. May God give us wisdom as to what that means.
Joanne, I’d thought to halt commenting, but on reading your words, God hit me over the head with the proverbial rolled-up newspaper.
They tell me I am chosen,
they tell me I’m held dear,
but my heart is frozen
in cancer’s clutching fear.
The nights, they last forever,
but never long enough;
when darkness doth surrender
day will be more than rough.
They say I am to witness yet
to grace in life gone brutal,
but I’d rather beer and cigarette,
feet up, mind in neutral.
I, like Jonah, would choose flight,
but God says, “Butt in chair, and write!”
Thank you Andrew, so glad you found the strength to reply with your usual skill and wit, always brings a smile.
Thanks Joanne – yes indeed those of us who were not a people have now become the chosen people of God! Beautiful reminder.
