“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith …” (2 Peter 1:5, NIV)
“Drudgery is the test of genuine character. The greatest hindrance in our spiritual life is that we will only look for big things to do.
We all have those times when there are no flashes of light and no apparent thrill to life, where we experience nothing but the daily routine with its common everyday tasks … Don’t always expect God to give you His thrilling moments, but learn to live in those common times of the drudgery of life by the power of God.
I must realize that my obedience even in the smallest detail of life has all of the omnipotent power of the grace of God behind it. If I will do my duty, not for duty’s sake but because I believe God is engineering my circumstances, then at the very point of my obedience all of the magnificent grace of God is mine through the glorious atonement by the Cross of Christ.”
(Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest, June 15)

“Obedience in the smallest detail…”
Faithfulness in drudgery is the true test of our character.
Blessings to you, Joanne!
So many times in the upheaval of life, I have missed the drudgery of life. Obedience: I have to remind myself that God is engineering and he knows best, but some days that is very hard. 🙂 Happy Sunday.
I need God to tattoo these words on my mind and heart-“I must realize that my obedience even in the smallest detail of life has all of the omnipotent power of the grace of God behind it. If I will do my duty, not for duty’s sake but because I believe God is engineering my circumstances, then at the very point of my obedience all of the magnificent grace of God is mine through the glorious atonement by the Cross of Christ.”
This is a sobering challenge – being faithful and obedient in those little details. Lord, help me to obey for the right reasons!
Most of life (if truth be told) is drudgery – it’s the “reg’ler” that tests our faith, isn’t it?
I pray to be found faithful.
