“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you …” (Ephesians 1:18, NIV)
“Remember that you have been saved so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in your body …
May God not find complaints in us anymore, but spiritual vitality – a readiness to face anything He brings our way. The only proper goal of life is that we manifest the Son of God; and when this occurs, all of our dictating of our demands to God disappears … We are here to submit to His will so that He may work through us what He wants. Once we realize this, He will make us bread and poured-out wine with which to feed and nourish others.”
(Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest, May 15)

Love this. This is not always easy because though I have a general belief about what God requires of me, I don’t always understand where He is directing me. Someone once said, “plant a bit of mint in the garden, and then step back.†Mint will completely take over your garden if given half a chance. That’s similar to how I try to pray. I pray for His will and then step back and allow Him to do His work. It may not be my will or even anything that I want. But in the end, He will gift me with….in this case, mint tea instead of bread and wine.
With recent events in my life, the readiness to face anything he brings our way, I am doing better on that. Recently, he amazed me with an answer to a prayer and good news about health. He is an awesome God, but there are challenges, and sometimes letting go and letting God is not easy for my human self, but I’m getting better at it. Great mental picture of the poured wine and bread. Would that not be a lovely thing to nourish others with God in our hearts. Have a wonderful week, and thanks for the encouraging scripture.
I’m reading in Ephesians right now, so this adds real depth to my thinking on that particular verse–which seems to be Oswald’s true gift!
There is so much in that quote that convicts and compels me!
