The Scripture has been crossing my path for days now, which was indicative it was time to pause and take a deeper look at it.

“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.” (John 12:24, NKJV)

The significance of this verse began to unfold slowly as it sunk into my soul.

Our lives are like seeds. They grow over the the time they are here on earth, going through the changing seasons, while the seasons of life also change our lives.

As I have given thought to my own life and the journey it has been on most of my adult life, I began to see our lives as hearts that have at times experienced brokenness.

Through the brokenness, God breathes life back into our souls; our lives becoming the very means by which He tells His story. His story of grace and redemption, reconciliation back to Himself and to one another.

Our lives may seem small and insignificant, yet when they are yielded to God, He plants us where we need to be. As we die to self-ambition, we begin to grow a life more fruitful than we could have imagined.

We face “death” over the course of our days: death of careers, a marriage, a dream, a relationship, a loved one, or a routine. It is as we face these deaths that we discover the possibility of new life, a rebirth.

The Gospel is the story of death and life, birth and rebirth –

“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3, NKJV)
