“Then Jesus went with them to the olive grove called Gethsemane and he said … Stay here and keep watch with me.” (Matthew 26:36, 38, NLT)
“We can never fully comprehend Christ’s agony in the Garden of Gethsemane …
The agony of Gethsemane was the agony of the Son of God in fulfilling His destiny as the Savior of the world. The veil is pulled back here to reveal all that it cost Him to make it possible for us to become the sons of God. His agony was the basis for the simplicity of our salvation. The Cross of Christ was a triumph for the Son of Man. It was not only a sign that our Lord had triumphed, but that He had triumphed to save the human race. Because of what the Son of Man went through, every human being has been provided with a way of access into the very presence of God.”
(Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest, April 5)
Today I am joining … Scripture & a Snapshot and Sunday Scripture Blessings .
I love Oswald Chambers. His voice of faith and reason seems such a comfort to me. Especially in these times when there are so many Christian voices spewing violence and hatred. I am so grateful for the access to God that has been given to me through Jesus.
I chose My Utmost as my devotional again at the start of the year as I rotate devotionals. I am finding his words most comforting and timely. Amazing how his words read fresh and new every time.
Unbelievable!
We have so little understanding of what it cost Jesus to redeem us. We’re privileged to have the biblical glimpse of Gethsemane, but I’m afraid my own response is often no better than that of the disciples!
One reason I so enjoy meeting those who share scripture is how uplifting, but also to learn new resources. I admit, I have never heard of Oswald Chambers. I looked him up, and subscribed to his daily email. Thank you. Have a great Palm Sunday.
It is always sad to realize what, as a human side of Jesus in the flesh, must have been feeling in that Garden. Born as a baby, taught as a man, and then the ultimate sacrifice for each of us. How glorious, and can always just say Praise Jesus and Thank him. 🙂
Such a small glimpse of the price he paid, and yet I’m overwhelmed at the thought of it. Thank you, Lord.
