“Â You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.” (Luke 12:40, NLT)
“Jesus rarely comes where we expect Him; He appears where we least expect Him, and always in the most illogical situations. The only way a servant can remain true to God is to be ready for the Lord’s surprise visits. This readiness will not be brought about by service, but through intense spiritual reality, expecting Jesus Christ at every turn. This sense of expectation will give our life the attitude of childlike wonder He wants it to have. If we are going to be ready for Jesus Christ, we have to stop being religious. In other words, we must stop using religion as if it were some kind of a lofty lifestyle – we must be spiritually real.”

How wonderful to live in expectation.
And I think this applies to our eschatology in a humbling way–I have friends who are convinced beyond the shadow of a doubt that they’ve figured out when the Lord will return and under what circumstances, etc. I’m not ready to say I have a handle on the ways of God.
I would not even attempt to say I fully understand all of God’s ways. I am grateful for His Presence in my life and to know He will never leave me nor forsake me.
I want to keep these words in my heart – “expect Jesus at every turn.”
Yes, me too, Elizabeth. Me too.
Love the reminder in your post. Sometimes, I do think the term religion is mis-used, and that makes people not understand and sometimes nor do I. Praying I can remember to expect Jesus, and in life, I have been surprised at the times he has shown up. Have a good week and stay well.
Like you, I have been both surprised and grateful when Jesus has shown up in my life. Praying for Him to be with us all and keep us safe.
Oswald Chambers always nails it! Thank you for sharing this with us.
