Children can grumble and whine about many things throughout the day. When a lovely little girl named Scarlett grumbles throughout the day, her mom knows she must do something to change the way Scarlett gets through each day.
Scarlett’s Spectacles by Janet Surette is a whimsical story sure to win over the heart of any child. When Scarlett tires of her own grumpiness, she takes her mother’s suggestion to exchange her grumpy glasses for a glad pair.
As Scarlett wears her glad glasses she discovers she is more thankful, pleased with small treats, and filled with gratitude for the good things in her day.
The illustrations, done by Shane Crampton, are bright and cheerful. My thirteen month granddaughter could not resist kissing Scarlett whom she instantly was drawn to love. The rhyming story will engage young hearts as they learn the lesson joy is a choice we make.
The book closes with the Scripture:
“Give thanks in everything.”
(I Thessalonians 5:18)
The lesson of gratitude is delightfully delivered in this story which will be read time and time again by children and parents.
This is a hard cover book, with thick and sturdy cardboard pages which makes this book a wonderful gift for any occasion.

The message in this children’s book is definitely one for adults as well. Unfortunately, we grumble and whine too. Do we ever stop? Thanks for the reminder to be grateful and to choose which glasses we will wear daily.
So very true, Yvonne 🙂 Perhaps we all need this book!
Gotta get me some of those glad glasses!
And having no experience with little girls, I have been delighted to see that my own granddaughter has the practice of kissing things that she loves.
What a gift those grands are to us!
