Each Friday my writing stems from a word prompt. Five minutes, one word prompt. The prompt this week is … Listen.
Interesting word – listen – to me it means to pay attention to; to absorb what is being said.
Moses, in calling the people to a wholehearted commitment to God said:
“Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone.” (Deuteronomy 6:4, NLT)
Sitting and looking at the words before me, I am reminded these words instruct us not only to listen with our ears, but to obey what is heard.
Who are we to listen to?
God. One God. The Lord alone. There is none other.
To listen to His Word without putting it into effect in my life, is not to listen at all. Listening incorporates obedience.
Moses continues …
“And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.” (verse 5)
Love will take all of our being. It will be no easy task, some days requiring more effort and expression of praise than other days. But God wants every part of us to love Him.
And Moses goes on …
“And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands I am giving you today.” (verse 6)
These words are so important Jesus repeated them and they have been recorded for us in three of the Gospels. God is quite serious in requiring us to listen to Him, to obey Him, to love Him, and to commit our lives to Him.
Jesus, in quoting these verses, said this was the first and greatest commandment. In taking the time to listen this morning, I came to realize:
One God.
Who has one purpose – salvation,
and desires His people to become one.
Listen.
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith On Fire and Faith ‘N Friends .
Your faith is so present in this word today. I wish you peace and love.
To you as well, Sabrina!
You’d better listen to the Man,
and better do as you are told,
’cause He’s the one who surely can
fry you with a lightning bolt.
He doesn’t really ask for much,
and makes do with what you’ve got;
just your heart and soul and such,
because, you see, He has a plot:
He formed you be in His image,
but Adam really let that go,
and now He will undo the damage
by remaking you from head to toe.
It’ll hurt, but when He’s done
we’ll be siblings to His Son.
Amen, Andrew. To be remade into His image.
This was a good reminder for me today. I listen to way too much voices that should not have space in my head. laurensparks.net
I do as well. May we listen to just His voice. I am going to share a link to the song which has been on repeat for several days now. Not sure why I feel to share it with you but may it bless you! xo

I rarely take the time to stop and listen to God. I know He has so much for me, just being quiet in His presence. Thank you for encouraging me today!
May you find time today to stop and listen. xo
Duet 6:4-9 is one of my fave passages in Scripture
Mine as well for so many reasons.
