I’ve been stuck on a verse for a few days. The question may have even been asked as to why He keeps returning me to this one verse, after all, it’s an “Advent” sort of verse and it is only September.
He has so faithfully and gently been teaching me how wrong I’ve been in labeling it as such. This is a verse for all times and for every moment.
“At that time, there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon. He was righteous and devout and eagerly waiting for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel.” (Luke 2:25, NLT)
Simeon may have been a priest but that is not certain. Priest or not, he was a man who probably had things to get done each day. But even in the doing, he remained righteous, devout and eagerly waiting.
And those are the words that hit me … “eagerly waiting”.
Simeon was waiting for the salvation which only Jesus could bring to this earth.
He was waiting for the Messiah to come and rescue.
Simeon was in posture or a state of continually anticipating when God was going to show up.
I want to kind of be like Simeon – faithfully waiting and anticipating. For when God shows up in our circumstances, He is going to rescue us from the discomfort, from the hurt, from the stress, and from the injustices of this world.
Funny thing about Simeon – he was not disappointed.
We won’t be either –
Our God is mighty to save.
“The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save.” (Zephaniah 3:17a, NIV)
Today I am joining … Destination Inspiration and Heart Encouragement .
Eagerly waiting, hopeful expectation, wonderful words. We do trust in the One who is worthy to save. Thank you for this post. Very encouraging.
Thank you! May we continue waiting, hoping and expecting.
Simeon makes me wonder why waiting for Jesus is not closer to the top of my do list every day??
So true, Michele. I have not been able to stop thinking on this one verse.
He wasn’t disappointed and we won’t be either. Excellent. laurensparks.net
Yeah … we do wait. Yet meanwhile, His mercies are new every morning. They are our manna.
How blessed we are.
So true, Linda. I am grateful every morning!
