Each Friday my writing stems from a word prompt. Five minutes, one word prompt. The prompt this week is … Fly.
The days fly by and the years pass more quickly than we would expect. As a mom, I determined to enjoy and make the most of the days I had with my own two children.
And yet the time still flew by, they quickly became adults.
Then came the days of watching my grandchildren while their parents worked and again, I determined to enjoy my days even more so, for now I surely knew how quickly the days would fly by.
“Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12, NLT)
In His love for us, God shows us how valuable our days are here on earth. We are not to waste the time, but make the most of each day. We live each day investing in the future, in eternity.
Scripture also tells us …
“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.”
(Ecclesiastes 3:1, NLT)
We learn to number our days so that we grow in wisdom. In wisdom we learn there are days set aside in which we pursue certain activities because the window of opportunity is a small one and will fly by.
And so yesterday, I wisely chose to go on Jocelyn’s “Fun Day” at school – the class celebration of kindergarten graduation.
The days are long and the years short.
They fly by!
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith On Fire and Fresh Market Friday and Faith ‘N Friends .
The years do fly by! I can’t believe my grandchildren are almost 17, 15, and almost 14. In August, all of them will be in high school, Zach a senior! Thanks for sharing your wisdom about treasuring the moments.
It’s amazing how one day they are little, and one day … grown and your friends 🙂 I know you enjoy every moment with them!
Well done, Joanne! Great use of the word prompt. And, yes, time indeed flies. Thanks so much. Abundant blessings to you and yours!
It’s amazing how fast time flys!
Looks like a lovely time enjoying the season you’re in! Grateful for reminders like these (especially when I’m worn out!)
Becky, I loved that you added “especially when I’m worn out”. It is especially in those moments that I find myself most grateful to have been present.
So timely for me as I just graduated my oldest from high school and had some family move across country. Relationships cherished and enjoyed are sweet. laurensparks.net Visiting you today from the faith and fire link up.
Lauren, the time and places may change but the memories are ours to hold onto always. So glad you stopped here!
I always figured that if I could outrace the sun I’d never grow old.
And now that I never will…it seems to have worked!
There’s ALWAYS a bright side. 🙂
Andrew, you continually look on the bright side! And you have spoken truth … One day, we will not outrace the Son nor grow old nor face any of these earthly challenges. So grateful God is with us!
Really loved your post, Joanne! So wise and so true! Knowing the things that are
the most important in life and then being able to spend the time (that flies by) is the most important thing!!
I’m new to Five Minute Friday. Tried my first one last week and then again this week. I think I’ve gotten hooked. Funny, my post for today was also on time flying!
Beautifully penned. Thanks for sharing!
So glad you visited! And welcome to FMF! I also was hooked and have found this to be a wonderful community of friends!
Oh so true… If we can only hold on to the memories and not wish the time away. I am with you. Three grown children and now the time is even flying with the grands. but as you, I’ve learned to take the time and just to pick them up from school is a big thing for them. Enjoy the season 🙂
It’s so true … sometimes we wish the time away. And then we wish the time back. Motherhood brings such a mix of emotions!
Times does fly by. Today, I pray I will enjoy each moment and rest in His presence. Have a blessed weekend!
The idea of “numbering my days” has been a repeating one this week. I think I’m getting the message:)
Kindergarten programs are just the cutest!!
Very true! Sometimes I’d like to slow down time…
