Each Friday my writing stems from a word prompt. Five minutes, one word prompt. The prompt this week is … Privilege.
Reading the word prompt, I headed to bed. During the night I woke with a tune going through my head, but did not pay much attention to it.
We converse, on and off, throughout the day. Some topics are more serious than others. Some as casual as can be. But the privilege to have conversation with him is one not taken lightly.
Privilege has been defined as “a right, immunity, or benefit enjoyed only by a person beyond the advantages of most” (dictionary.com). It’s a special right.
“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” (Hebrews 4:16, NLT)
The privilege is ours – access to the very ear of our God, who attentively and faithfully, hears our cries for help. In the back of my Bible, I have written this quote which has often brought such assurance:
“Speak to Him, thou, for He hears, and Spirit with spirit can meet. Closer is He than breathing, and nearer than hands and feet.”
(Alfred Lord Tennyson)
As I begin to truly hear the tune yet going through my head, I realized the familiar words:
“What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
And what a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer.”
Grateful for the reminder – There is no greater privilege.
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith On Fire and Faith ”˜N Friends .
Yes. We are blessed indeed. Let’s not forget to use the privilege of prayer! Thanks so much for your words, Joanne! Blessings to you!
Ah we heard the same tune. Isn’t God so good to us? Visiting from FMF this week.
I love when several of us have the same train of thought. And then I love to see the varied ways one word can speak so individually and distinctly to us all.
the GREAT privilege. xo
Sure is, sweet friend! xo
I love when words of truth like that start playing through our heads. I’m so grateful for this privilege too, my friend. xo
I am amazed at how words to old hymns can flood back in. And sometimes more than one stanza!
Isn’t it amazing that we can go directly to our Savior? This king of Kings? The highest privilege indeed.
Debby, the word prompt made me realize how I don’t think of the significance of going directly often enough. We can become so casual about prayer. But we have the attention of The Almighty and it indeed a privilege.
No greater privilege indeed!
Such a privilege that we have access to the Throne of God! Blessings!
The words to that song blow me away when I really think about it! God WANTS us to share our burdens with him!
When I stopped to pay attention to the words going through my head, Anita, the significance blew me away as well.
Joanne! A beautiful 5-minute post. I love your quote from Tennyson, paired with the Scripture from Hebrews. You encouraged my heart this morning.
