I recently had a conversation with a friend about relationships. More specifically, the conversation was about good, godly friendships that suffer a break & are never resumed. It is a most difficult thing to endure the loss of a relationship that once meant so much. In thinking about this a little more since that conversation, several thoughts have come to me….
Proverbs 19:22 tells us, “What a man desires is unfailing love…”.
There we have it. Every one of us desires, wants from others, searches for, longs for, even prays for – yup, unfailing love. We want a love that is ours. That we can count on, forever. That will be there, through thick & thin. That is dependable. That is loyal. That will never reject us. Let’s face it though – we all endure relationships that fall apart at one time or another in our lives. It is just too tall of an order for any human to fill…
“Many a man claims to have unfailing love, but a faithful man who can find?” Proverbs 20:6
Scripture gives us the answer to that question…
“For with the Lord is unfailing love & with Him is full redemption.” Psalm 130:7
The only One that will ever be able to love us with an unfailing love is our God. Unfailing love in this verse is “hesed, unconditional, permanent loyalty. It is God’s unbreakable covenant love for His own.” (Holman OT Commentary on Psalms, page 299). It is His love that we can trust to be unmovable, unbreakable, unshakable.          Â
It is His love that is FOREVER.
This is dedicated to my friend, who through her own transparency with me & some meaningful conversation, prompted me to think upon this a little more today!! Thank you!
