Each Friday my writing stems from a word prompt. Five minutes, one word prompt. The prompt this week is … Overcome.
The verse came in the middle of the night, 4AM to be exact, and continued to weave its way deeply into my thoughts until it stirred me out from the bed …
“This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.” (Hebrews 6:19, NLT)
Anchors. They keep a vessel tethered for safety and to prevent drifting. They can be permanent or temporary but one thing is certain – if one does not want to drift or be overcome, one must be anchored when the storms occur.
Overcome, as defined by dictionary.com, is “to prevail over; to surmount; to conquer.”
Life can usher in a storm quicker than the blink of an eye. The storms may threaten to overcome us if we do not remember that we have an Anchor. We are held safe and secure as the Anchor will hold.
Our Anchor will not slip, break down, come untied, nor let us go for we have a permanent anchor.
He will hold and He will hold us.
And we will not be overcome.
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith On Fire and Faith Filled Friday and Faith ‘N Friends and Fresh Market Friday .
Thanks for reminding me to stay anchored.
This is the second time this week that verse from Hebrews and I have crossed paths. Soaking it it…and listening to “My Lighthouse” right now, Joanne. Thanks for the Friday encouragement. #faithonfire
It’s amazing how God can be sure to put a verse in front of us repeatedly. And I so love when He does!
I love that verse- and the song! Both great reminders of where we should put our trust, and that we have an anchor that is absolutely secure.
As I sit here looking at your comment, Lesley, this is what has hit me – –
When our lives are overcome by Him, nothing can overcome us! Grateful you stopped to share!!
Love this, Joanne. And My Lighthouse is one of my favorite songs.
Mine too, Debbie. I sat listening and clapping through as it was on repeat 🙂
I have Rend Collective on a list of “things to look into.” Gonna click send on this comment and begin my research here!
Their music has so blessed my heart over the last few years. Glad to introduce you 🙂
Love this song, and the illustrations of an anchor and lighthouse. For those of us in a non-boating realm, we can forget the significance of both those illustrations. Thanks, for the reminder.
I love that we all can point each other to things outside of our own realm of thinking to see significances we might otherwise miss in God’s Word.
Thank you Joanne. Love the image of an Anchor and the song. I agree how quickly storms of life can rush in. Thankful for the only Anchor we know. Your FMF neighbor, Julie
So funny, Julie, as I visited your post a few minutes ago 🙂
I love that Christ is our anchor. Oh and my lighthouse…..one of my fave ones. I’m so excited to see Rend in concert on Thursday.
And now I am jealous 🙂 in a good way, of course. May you be blessed as you see Rend on Thurs. I hope they do My Lighthouse!
Joanne, I love the connexion you made between overcoming and remaining anchored; I’ve never seen that woven together. Great job! (And I love the song.)
#1 at FMF this week.

Andrew, so funny as I visited your post a few minutes ago. The beautiful of FMF and the word prompts for me is that I find myself making connections I may have missed otherwise. I’m glad you liked the song!
I appreciate your steady witness to God’s power and faithfulness, Joanne. It’s so true that our lives can change in a moment! But with such a powerful anchor, we can overcome! (And I love that song. It brings a smile to my face every time.)
Rend Collective – My Lighthouse! Great reminder to remain anchored to truth – to Jesus – to keep from being overcome by the storms of life!
Thanks, Joanne!
I got ready to comment on your post, clicked on the link to the Rend Collect song, and got lost in their music (I especially love Rescuer) for the next hour. Now, back to your blog! Thank you for the reminder that Jesus is the only one who can hold us fast in life’s storms! I need to hear that (and the music).
