Raising children is not for the faint of heart. Throw in changing hormones, and raising a girl may have been one of the biggest struggles faced as a mom. No baby childcare book can prepare you for the years ahead fully.
Perhaps this is why this book is so needed.
Instead of being overwhelmed and wringing our hands in worry and anxiety, Teri Lynn Underwood reminds us there is no greater investment we can ever make into the lives of our girls than prayer.
Praying For Girls is not a “how to” book but a “what to” list of areas to diligently cover our girls in prayer during those challenging years. She brings suggested prayers for the areas of Her Identity, Her Heart, Her Mind, Her Relationships, and Her Purpose. Each chapter includes Scriptures and stories to show how the author prayed in her own life for her daughter.
The author recognizes our girls will need to be approached differently so as to teach in an age appropriate manner. Each section includes an activity for little girls, for middle girls, and for big girls. She wisely includes a section which is “Just For Moms” as she surely knows moms need encouragement on those trying days.
The author concludes the book sharing two conclusions:
- “Parenting is hard.”
- “Praying is a gift.”
“I have a fun little sign hanging on the gallery wall in my office. It has the popular saying, “All I need is a little bit of coffee and a whole lot of Jesus.” I love it because it reminds me of an important truth: I will always need more of what Jesus can do and less of what I can do myself … I can only parent her through the grace and love of Christ.”
(page 193)
So it is for each of us as well. We can only parent, or influence, our girls through His grace and love. And gratefully, He has given us His Word and the gift of prayer to guide and help us.
This book is for every mom and every woman has influence in the lives of girls growing up in this ever changing world, which means this book is for all of us.

We can never go wrong praying, leaning on Jesus. Sounds as though this book has that at the heart. Thanks for the review and intro to Praying for Our Girls, Joanne. Visiting today via #raralinkup.
It was such an encouraging book, infusing faith and strength to believe God in, and for, the lives of our girls.
This sounds like such a great book. I need to look into it! Thanks for encouraging us to pray and parent with grace. I know I need a lot of Jesus (and coffee) every day! â¤
Laura, as a Mimi to two little girls, I so appreciated reading this book. It truly is a book for us all. Our “parenting” days are truly never over as we always have a young life we can influence.
Wow. Parenting is hard. Praying is a gift. My girls are big now, and I need this word more than ever. 🙂 Thanks for sharing this book, Joanne!
Betsy, it is so true isn’t it. Although our children may be grown, we still need prayer and wisdom in and for their lives. Parenting never ends. It changes and I am finding more of my parenting is now done in prayer. Blessings!
Thanks, Joanne! I just ordered a copy for my daughter. Our oldest granddaughter is entering the hormonal years, and sometimes a word in due season is more willingly received from a “stranger” than Mom. (I may have to read it before I give it to her.)
Alice, I think your daughter may find the book to be most encouraging. This world is so rapidly changing. And yes, I agree, sometimes a fresh word is needed and more readily embraced when it comes from other than us. Such wisdom, friend!
This is a book I would definitely find useful! Thanks so much for sharing it at Booknificent Thursday on Mommynificent.com!

It’s always good to share books with you, Tina!
Since I had boys, I think I need this to help me pray for my new granddaughters! I can tell already that girls are so different! Thanks for sharing a review so I could discover this book.
Where was this book 40+ years ago? Now, I’m thinking WHO I should bless with it. Just thought of who. THANKS!
Although I am a mother of three sons, I believe this book will serve as a wonderful gift for my family and friends with daughters. I hope to pray over granddaughters one day but in the interim, I will continue to pray for the girls and women God places in my life. We can all use prayer to cover and comfort us!
one of my girls is about to get married, the other still in high school. I know that no matter how old and grown up they get, they still need prayer. Thanks for sharing this resource!
Looks like a great book, I wish I would have had it when my girls were young. Thank you for sharing it.
This book is great timing Joanne. I have been so concerned for adolescent girls and how to best reach them. Prayer is always paramount to anything else I can do. Thanks for suggesting it!
Sounds like a good book! We sure do need to pray for our kids, and girls have some different needs than boys.
I’d like to check this book out. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Joanne, for your kind review of Praying for Girls. Your words are certainly encouraging to me and the comments from others also blessed me today.
Teri Lynne
It was a beautiful and truth filled book and surely has me praying for my two granddaughters in a new way, especially for this school year about to begin. So thank you for blessing us all!
