It’s Friday which means I am joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Many of us writing on that same word.
Today’s prompt is … Crave.
The prompt brought a smile to my face. This time of year, my cravings are pretty much the same as every year. If you know me even so slightly, you know my favorite cravings, during the Christmas season, are gingerbread cookies and homemade caramel popcorn. Hence, my husband already came home from work with a shopping bag of this …
And that is so it .. our souls crave. There is something about the wait of the month of December which reminds us of our cravings.
Cravings – it is what we long for, desire, and deeply yearn.
The funny thing about our cravings is that we think they are what we need more than anything else. We come to understand they only temporarily fill or satisfy us and we will only crave, yet once more.
This Advent season, I am craving more – more of Jesus and what He has for me. With intent and focus, there is a renewed anticipation and expectation as the wait continues.
There is no doubt He will bring satisfaction and good things.
He has promised!
“For he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.”
(Psalm 107:9, NLT)
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith Filled Friday and Faith ‘N Friends and #FreshMarketFriday .
I love that Christians and the lost alike focus on Jesus this time of year. He was what all our souls crave even when we don’t understand!
You are so right, Helene. Christmas draws us all back to see that which we need most and is most missing – Our Lord.
Cravings might just be contagious, because I’m mentally searching for my caramel popcorn recipe.
And I know for a fact that your writing makes me long to know more of Jesus – not just in the Christmas season, but year round.
Blessings, Joanne!
I am humbled, Michele. Thank you.
oh..he does satisfy doesn’t he….if only we let him….
Visiting from FMF #18
Annette. such a powerful insight. May we let Him.
What an important point you make about craving, Joanne, we will only crave more. May we always crave more of Jesus.
Craving more is beneficial only when we crave what is most needed – Jesus. May we remember this all year round.
I love your words again, Joanne. I’m craving more of Jesus too. Looking forward to spending more time with Him this weekend. Great post!
I think there are many that are craving more of Him this year. Perhaps the struggles of the year, and in the news, have served a deeper purpose than we realized. They brought focus to that which is truly needed – Jesus. Blessings!
I enjoyed meeting you “oh, such a little bit”. Your pictures showed me how well you are loved.
Glad to have you stop here in my little space. May you & yours have a most blessed Christmas!
Oh, Joanne, you reminded me of something…and now I crave it!
I used to bake special cookies each Christmas. They were a sandwich of a hard ‘biscuit’ with a hint of cinnamon, with a raspberry jam filling, and glazed with vanilla frosting inset with red-hots.
The biscuit was the tricky bit…and I’ve lost the recipe! Ah, well.
#1 at FMF this week.

Andrew, your comment brought a smile to my face. Red-Hots Candies are one of my favorite things around Valentine’s Day. These cookies sound delicious. I hope that you either found the recipe and someone willing to bake them or someone brings you some. So grateful for you!
I love caramel popcorn. Now, I am craving it. You are writing my heart hear, to have more of Jesus, especially this time of year when I can easily lose focus. Have a blessed week.
Barbie, I think there are many of us craving more of Him this Christmas. It seems to have been that sort of a year 🙂 Blessings to you and yours!
