Today I’m joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. All of us writing on that same word.
Today’s prompt is … Whole.
I went to bed with two thoughts on my heart. One was of the moral failure of a young man. The other was the one word prompt – whole.
This morning both still linger in my thoughts.
The moral failure of anyone saddens me deeply. The brokenness and hopelessness which follows is not soon overcome nor forgotten. Life is forever changed and one cannot regain that which has been lost.
Sitting in the stillness of the early morning, I wondered how this moral failure and the word prompt could possibly intersect, knowing already that they would. Softly stirring in my heart came the familiar tune and words …
My sin—oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!—
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
My sin – the whole of it – from the day I was born until the day I die has been nailed to the Cross. This is the confidence and hope we each find in and through Christ. May each of us today remember the grace, mercy, and forgiveness which has been given to us.
“Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.”
(Psalm 103:1, NLT)

Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith Filled Friday and Grace & Truth .
The whole of our sin … wow, what a thought this morning! Happy Friday, friend. xoxo
It’s a thought which I can easily forget at times. It struck deeply this week.
This is beautiful and thought provoking, Joanna. I’m always amazed by these 5 minute prompts so many of you are able to work wonders with. I love the hymn you shared as well. Thank you :). Have a wonderful weekend!
Candace, I am not sure I worked wonders with the word prompt. It was more that the Lord was already orchestrating thoughts in my head over the week which then aligned with the word prompt. I am always amazed when the word prompt aligns with life as it shows me the work of God in our lives, even when we are unaware 🙂
God doesn’t do anything in part, does He? Wholly our sins are redeemed, wholly the Spirit guides us, wholly we’re loved. He’s not a part-time God, is He? *smile* Joanne, I will lift up a prayer for this young man who’s strayed. Love that Psalms verse you shared. 🙂 I’ve never done that 5 min. Friday linkup…I should try it. 🙂 ((xoxo))
Thank you, Brenda. Our God does everything fully, wholly, in His time and in His way. Most grateful for this.
And yes! You should give the Five Minute Friday linkup a try!
Wonderful truth! The hymn you have posted is soothing and reminds of God’s great grace.
That hymn always brings assurance and comfort.Have a blessed Sunday!
I love this, “My sin – the whole of it – from the day I was born until the day I die has been nailed to the Cross. This is the confidence and hope we each find in and through Christ. May each of us today remember the grace, mercy, and forgiveness which has been given to us.” and also the song…thank you for posting that
Shannon, it is a truth I can sometimes forget. I am still sinning, still in need of forgiveness. Always will be. And it all has already been covered. Grateful you shared!
I love that song, and I’m so glad that all we have to do is ask and Jesus will add our whole sin to the list of things he’s forgiven.
Anita, it is so easy to forget all we have been forgiven. Amazing to think about all our “whole” self encompasses. Have a blessed Sunday!
What a beautiful truth to hold on to – all of our sin was nailed to the cross – the whole of it – past, present AND future!
Thanks for sharing on Grace and Truth.
Aimee, as I read your comment the thought which came – no wonder the old hymn says, “I will cling to the old rugged Cross”! Have a blessed Sunday!
