“We learn how to create beauty where none exists, how to be generous beyond our means, how to change a small corner of the world …”
~ Gabrielle Hamilton
In the course of a day, life happens.
Life happens to us and through the things which take place, presenting two choices to us. No matter which we select, we will never be the same. And perhaps, that is the point of all which happens in our days.
We are not supposed to stay the same.
People are challenging. Notice I said, “People.”
You will challenge me and many times, I will challenge you. In 1 Thessalonians 5, we read:
“Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone. See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people.” (verses 14-15, NLT)
We truly need help in our interactions with others. It is in those moments, the day to day interactions, where we will make our choice …
- Will be changed to become stronger, compassionate, and honest with one another?
- Or will we behave ugly – allowing ourselves to become angry, bitter and disappointed?
For days now, I have gone back to read this passage repeatedly. It was pointed out to me that all God asks is for us to “always try.” Did I try to do good? Did I make every effort, attempting to accomplish good? Or did I allow myself to justify my poor response, for surely we can always find justification, even in our being wrong.
The choice is ours and it will determine the manner in which we will be changed.
We will become different in that moment.
And so will those around us.
May we learn to create beauty perhaps where none currently exists. May we allow God to show us how to be generous beyond our means with our compassion, kindness, and joy. May we change our small corner of the world.
Let’s at least try.
For it is by His grace we are changed.
Today I am joining … Thought Provoking Thursday and Grace Moments and Coffee for Your Heart .
I love the thought that we have that freedom and enablement from the Holy Spirit to create beauty and transform within our circumstances. What an inspiring thought for my day! Thanks!
We truly do, Amy. May we exercise our freedom to do so each and ever day. Grateful you stopped here!
Joanne, this is so inspiring. Any one of us could try to make beauty wherever we are whether it’s with our words or actions. Sometimes it doesn’t take much to plant some good right where we are. Blessings to you! I’m your neighbor at Coffee For Your Heart!
Gayl, I cannot help but wonder if at times it is as easy as just showing up.
I am sorry for your loss. May God bring you, and your family, His comfort and peace in the days ahead. Blessings!
I love this Joanne. When we try to create beauty we open the door to so much more for us and for others. 🙂 So much to think on in these words you share here. Thanks for sharing them with us at #GraceMoments!
Blessings,
Dawn
Dawn, you make a wonderful point – – – even in our trying, we may create beauty. Sometimes all we need to do is be there. Have a blessed Sunday!
