Today I’m joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. All of us writing on that same word.
Today’s prompt is …. Morning.
I woke up this morning. Taking a few minutes to see how the thoughts would come, my mind filled immediately with needs of friends:
- AÂ journey with her mom in stage 4 stomach cancer – with little to no support.
- A son going through a battle with drug addiction and memories from serving in the military.
- Mamas in Uganda fighting for the lives of their children.
- A single mom searching for an apartment for the third time in several months.
- A wife with her husband in the hospital.
Women – in varied roles and stages of life – with dire needs. And yet, this morning the only words I could speak were, “Jesus help them!” The words no sooner out of my mouth, I began to sing …
“In the morning, when I rise. In the morning, when I rise. In the morning, when I rise.
Give me Jesus.
And when I am alone. Oh and when I am alone. And when I am alone.
Give me Jesus.
Give me Jesus, give me Jesus.
You can have all this world.
But give me Jesus.”
The melody so familiar and comforting as the truth, and power, of those words flooded my being like a balm. And the truth came, the truth of His Word –
“Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.” (Psalm 5:3, NLT)
“I rise early, before the sun is up; I cry out for help and put my hope in your words.” (Psalm 119:147, NLT)
“Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you.” (Psalm 143:8, NLT)
In the morning, we can rise to meet with Him. In the stillness and calm, before the clamor and busyness of the day, He is waiting for us.
Each and every morning.
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith Filled Friday and Grace & Truth .
Just give me Jesus! It’s all we need!
I went to bed with a million thoughts so this is quite timely for me this morning. Happy Friday, friend!
Grateful to Him that it was. xo
Love that song!!! I almost added it to my post too. Wonderful thoughts and encouragement this morning. Prayers for your friends and their needs. God is so able. ♥
Nannette, it is amazing how a song can bring instant comfort & peace, no matter how many times I have heard it before. Our God is so able!
Thank you for words of encouragement and a song for my heart. I love the mornings and see you do to. What a blessing you are and encourager too.
Thank you, Christine. That song does it for me every time 🙂
Lovely thoughts Joanne. Jesus really does meet our needs. I love that arrangement of “Give Me Jesus” by Fernando! My husband and I got to meet him once after a concert. It was great!
How fun to have been able to meet him, Gayl. I turn to that song often when my soul needs a little soothing. Blessings!
I love that song! Thank you for reminding me of the power of those words. When all we can do is utter groans, the Holy Spirit translates them into prayers to our heavenly Father.
We think we need eloquence in prayer and all we need is one Name, His.
Yes! Gimme Jesus! The perfect way to start any day. Thanks for sharing, neighbor. Blessings!
Thanks so much for sharing that song, and reiterating the message I’ve heard so often about praying early before the clamor of the day starts. My prayer list looks long, too, and sometimes daunting, but I know all that each one on the list needs is Jesus.
Just give us more Jesus
All needs will diminish we leave them with Him. Blessings to you!
