Today I’m joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. All of us writing on that same word.
Today’s prompt is …. Forget.
There are things I truly want to forget – the hurt experienced in the past. Illness. Deaths. Job losses. Those first months of colic. Church difficulties. Disagreements.
And there are things I never want to forget – the joys. The times of laughter. The quiet and rich conversations. Vacations. And recent videos of my granddaughter, three years old, “exercising” because she wants to be a “grown-up super hero” one day.
Somehow the mix of both that which I want to forget and that which I don’t want to forget are important this morning, as they point me forward bringing significance to the day.
“I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead. I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” (Philippians 3:13-14, NLT)
These days pass so quickly and yet, at times, seem to move so slowly. Each one adds up, revealing purpose beyond our abilities to see.
Last night on American Idol, Keith Urban, said something which stood out to me as contestants sang duets with past Idol alumni. He said, “You managed to stay in your own lane. That’s what made it work.”
Perhaps therein is the secret to life – each of us staying in our own lane. Forgetting the past. And looking forward to that which truly matters.
May we press on.
Reach the end of the race.
And receive the heavenly prize.
Forget all else.
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith Filled Friday and Grace & Truth .
Oh! I like that! If we stay in our own lane, we aren’t all up in someone else’s business ;). It also helps us focus on forward movement. There are bad things I don’t want to forget (ok, the pain of them yes, the lessons learn, no), and good things (like chocolate fudge brownies) I wish I didn’t think about so often ;).
Anita, you so brought a smile in the way you worded it! But it’s so true … when we get all up in someone else’s business, we don’t tend to our own. Love it!
It can be so tempting to splatter our time, attention, effort, and “suggestions” all over the race track. Staying in our own lane simplifies life and releases us from the temptation to take responsibility for others. Thanks for reminding me of this wisdom today. I love the look of your blog. Not sure when you changed, but this looks terrific!
Ginger, who would think that as I mindlessly watched TV, I would hear words to remember 🙂 And thank you, on the blog. I changed it for the new year for the first time.
The phrase in our home was, “Mind your Ps and Qs”. I need reminding of Phil.3:13-14. I try to focus on the good stuff and leave the rest the best I can. Pressing onwards and upwards.
Yes, Janie, how I have forgotten that phrase. I have so loved reading what came to mind for each of you.
Pressing forwarding toward the prize and forgetting all else. Yes, that is a great goal. As I read your writing, I am reminded of the word “pressing.” It is a determined and directed word. Sometimes I meander rather than press forward. I am thankful for God’s grace and redirection.
I’m glad to be your FMF neighbor.
Cheryl, I love what you have added! It’s true – we sometimes meander rather than press forward. May we be determined and directed in the days ahead! I am so glad you stopped and shared. Thank you!
Amen, sister!!! Pressing on toward that prize indeed! It makes me happy just thinking about what is to come.
