Most Fridays, I join Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. All of us writing on that same word.
Today the word prompt is … Doubt
Doubt.
We all experience the feeling now and then during the course of our days …
~ we doubt the sun is going to come out
~ we doubt we’ll get the much needed rain
~ we doubt we’ll get our dream job
~ we doubt our talents
Jeepers, yesterday I had doubts Jocelyn would nap 🙂
But doubt is that feeling that gnaws away at us. It can almost paralyze us – if we let it.
Doubt … “uncertainty of belief or opinion; lack of confidence; to distrust” (from the NLT dictionary/concordance).
This morning those definitions made me stop and think for a bit. OK, a long bit as I read them last night before heading to bed, without writing this post.
The question which is gnawing at me is this -> In those times of doubt, who am I doubting – myself or God?
And that, my friends, is a loaded question.
We come to Him in prayer, laying our concerns, our needs, and our requests before His throne. Doubt can set it as I wonder if God will answer my prayer. James tells us this:
“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt. because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” (James 1:5-6, NIV1984)
This morning I have confessed my doubt before God. What an offense it must be to Him. The One who has been faithful time and time again. How can I lack confidence in Him? Distrust Him even, when all He does has been good and for my good.
May we not be blown and tossed about.
Ask.
Believe.
Do not doubt.
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith Filled Friday and Fellowship Friday and Grace & Truth .
You and both quoted James! Such a great chapter on doubt and stradfastness. Thank you for sharing your heart. I’m your neighbor for FMF!
It is always amazing to see the direction which the one word takes each of us. May we take the words of James to heart & ask & not doubt. Stay steady this week!
Oh, this is such a wonderful post. Especially loved your line, “How can I lack confidence in Him? Distrust Him even, when all He does has been good and for my good”. Helen {A FMF friend}
Thank you for sharing your response to my words as you have encouraged me. May we believe & not doubt for He is good. All the time!
Amen. Helen 🙂
Sweet friend I too doubt. I KNOW He can but sometime I doubt if he WILL do it for me. Thanks for the encouragement to press BEYOND doubt and move into faith. The word says He who comes to God must BELIEVE. Doubt and belief cannot share the same space.
I think we all struggle with doubt now & then. Probably why God’s Word so encourages us to “believe” so often. I think you hit it on the head … we must press in to Jesus if we are going to hold onto faith. So grateful you shared your thoughts! Blessings!
Happy to have visited from Grace&Truth linkup
Doubts plague us all and I think we have a God who knows our frame – our flesh. He came to cover those doubts with assurance and hope – but we do fail to believe Him for that. So glad that He is able – in all things – to rule and reign and help our unbelief. Amen – ask and believe. Blessings, friend.
Love what you have shared, Tiffany. “He rules and reigns and helps our unbelief.” Blessings!
