In Joshua 3, the Israelites were waiting to cross the Jordan River. One would think that by now they would know that God could part waters. God instructs them that when they see the ark of the covenant move out, they were to follow suit. I especially love how God says:
“Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before.†(Joshua 3:4 NIV).
Let’s face it – so much of what occurs in our lives are situations that we have never faced before. New, uncharted territory that can bring such apprehension, such fear, & uncertainty.
The people are further instructed, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.†(Joshua 3:5 NIV). They were to keep themselves holy, pure before God & then they would see Him do amazing things.
“Amazing thingsâ€. In the Hebrew, the word is “pala†meaning “wonderful things, wondrous things.†It denotes “the things that He does which are beyond the bounds of human powers or expectations.†(Old Testament Lexical Aids). Hard things.
This made me think of the hard circumstance I am facing at this time. How I want to see Him do something wonderful, beyond my expectation in this particular situation. I am sure you can think of something in your life as well that only He can make right or work out.
May we rely on Him as we make decisions. Each decision, every choice will take us down a new path…
a career choice
   a job change
       who to marry
           whether to stay married
                what school to apply to
do the home renovation or not
                          finances
                              to have children
                                  a medical diagnosis
                                     relationships
All hard decisions that can be life changing. May we rely on Him in making those very decisions facing us. As we do, we can be assured that…..
“Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before.â€
