I’m joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. All of us writing on that same word.
Today the word prompt is … Relief.
In reading the prompt, I cannot help but think of each of the faces splayed out before me on my desk. Coincidence? Somehow I think not.
For if ever there were a group of women, of mamas, who needed relief recently, it was this group of courageous women.
In the last few weeks, they have faced being hospitalized with typhoid and malaria, both them and their young ones. They have faced attacks on themselves, having the little which they possess stolen from them.
Yet they trusted in God, knowing there were others joining them in prayer, asking God to bring relief to them.
And God was faithful. He brought relief in the form of:
- funds to provide mosquito nets while they slept. These will protect against mosquito bites, the most common cause of malaria.
- funds to provide tablets to purify their drinking water. This simple measure will protect them from typhoid.
- funds to provide permanent room, offering them a safer environment for themselves and their children.
Relief. It can come to us in varied ways and means. But our God is faithful and surely is the One to bring the relief we most need.
“O Lord, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy;
in your faithfulness and righteousness come to my relief.“Â (Psalm 143:1, NIV)

Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Dance With Jesus and Fellowship Friday and Faith Filled Friday .
Thanks for your story.
Beautiful post. The fact these women are still smiling, and managed to arrive for (what I assume are their nets) in clean, best, clothes…..it brought tears to my eyes and filled my heart with pride and joy in the power of the human soul. [I just clicked over to The Lulu Tree and would be really interested in contacting you about your experiences of setting up the project….it’s something I’m really interested in becoming involved with where I live (and specifically with the aim of empowering single mothers, as I am one myself)]…so glad you posted at FMF and that I clicked through….it feels like there’s a Divine had at work, actually, as this is an idea I’ve had, developing at the back of my mind, for a long time. You are an inspiration. Thank you, brave and wonderful you. {Helen, a FMF friend}
Helen, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. The pictures of the mamas get me every time I see them. I did not set up The Lulu Tree. That was the work of Emily Wierenga. I volunteer as tending to sponsor care. I would be willing for you to contact me if you have questions regarding sponsorship. Please browse around on the website as I do think you may find many of your questions answered there. I am so grateful that the ministry has struck a chord in your heart. Blessings!
Ah Joanne…thank you so much for contacting me…I shall continue browsing around (I have been so inspired by the efforts of you all). Thank you, Helen
Beautiful words. Beautiful women. Beautiful post! I’m stopping by from #DancewithJesus
They truly are beautiful and our God is doing an amazing work there. Thank you for stopping here today!
We have a generous God who continues to provide us with our needs. What a relief to receive reliefs from Him. 🙂
Have a fantastic weekend!
Love how you put it – “What a relief to receive reliefs from Him.” For then, it is the perfect relief, exactly that which we need.
