“Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’ ” (Matthew 1:23, NLT)
Immanuel
Immanuel, the With of God
Incarnate Love on carnal sod.
Set aside Thy lofty crown
Knees of God kneeling down.
Spirit feet shod with flesh
Earth prints of celestial steps.
Fullness of the Deity
Draping God that man might see.
Volume of Thy silent voice
The Word made flesh-O, Blessed Choice!
What is man that Thou wouldst come
Wrapped as we, that we’d be one?
Wake, O Sleeper! Tongue must tell!
It’s God with us!
Immanuel.

Good sharing, good picture, good thinking. Thanks.
Love the picture, Joanne, especially the movement of the star. I watched the Star of Bethlehem the other day and it was intriguing how “the star stopped” was explained.
Blessings,
Janis
So much to marvel at when we think of it all.
We didn’t have a middle name for our midlife surprise. I remember choosing this name and loving it, feeling immediately connected to its meaning. Your post brings back the sweet memory of the birth of our youngest – Ade’ Immanuel Epperson (now 4 years old). Giving God praise for the miracle of life. Happy Sunday!
Lisha, a sweet memory for sure. I love hearing the story behind the names of our children. Thank you for sharing yours with me.
What a beautiful poem by Beth! I’m so glad you shared it!
Reading this poem the other day, Elizabeth, has caused me to stop & think long about “The Word became Flesh”. I just had to share it.
What a blessing — thanks for sharing Beth’s poem. My heart is still and waiting — preparing.
Mare, that is the best posture our hearts can be in! Then He can come!
