One of the best ways I learn is from people watching, especially children.
I have had the joy of having both of my granddaughters while their parents work full time. Sophia taught me much and now that she is in school full time, Jocelyn is picking up the slack.
Yes, Jocelyn is under the blanket. And no, this was not her attempt at tent making. She was under the blanket with a toy which is most familiar to her, having been played with many times before. But today she discovered something different about the toy.
It is a train locomotive which when you push the button, plays the song, She’ll Be Coming Round the Mountain When She Comes. It only plays the one tune. And each time, the headlight comes on.
The only difference today is Jocelyn made a discovery –
The light shines more brightly in the darkness.
And perhaps this is the simple truth God has been conveying to us all along ….
“The Word gave life to everything that was created and his life brought light to everyone.
The light shines in the darkness and the darkness can never extinguish it.”
(John 1:4-5, NLT)

Love the ways God teaches us through children!
Kathryn, It’s so true! I continue to be amazed at how their antics become an object lesson in my life 🙂
If you look, you will see the lessons children can teach you. And sometimes these lessons can be surprising.
Colline – they are not only surprising lessons but they are lessons which stick!
Yes, children teach me so much too. I love when we can catch a glimpse of the world all fresh and new again through their eyes. Light shines brighter in the darkness: a lesson we should never outgrow! Thanks for sharing.
Lisa, I love lessons I learn from children. They are always precious lessons which stick for life. Perhaps that is why our Lord tells us to become like little children. Have a great weekend!
Thank you, Jo for reminding me of how “God enlightens our darkness” .
I am reminded of the Word and “The Light shines in the darkness and the darkness comprehended it not.” His Light pushes back the darkness. Halleluiah!
How precious….little Joceyln under the blanket. I need those days of “under the blanket” where His light shines so brightly. I ask the Lord to cover me with His blanket of light away from everything else that I might discover and see.
Mare – He will always keep you covered & it is there you will be sheltered & protected. Always. (Psalm 91:4). Much love to you!
