Words are a funny thing. We throw them around all day long – in conversations of small talk and in those of deep meaning.
Sometimes are words spill out before we even think about what we are saying. Other times, we mull the words around in our head, like a teabag in water, waiting until they are steeped before we release them.
We all know our words are powerful, Scripture telling us “they have the power of life and death” (Proverbs 18:21). We reap the consequences, good or bad, of the very words we speak.
Yesterday I read words which fell on my soul like a balm. Three simple words which spoke volumes and have continued to minister to me, deeply. The funny thing is I have never met the woman face to face, only through blogging. I never even gave thought as to whether or not she noticed me. We connected here and there through links and comments. Plain and simple.
Would you like me to share the words? I think we all can learn deeply from them, I promise.
“I’ve missed you.”
There you have it. The words which deeply blessed me at the moment I most needed to be encouraged. No Scripture. No cute meme. No quote. Just three words …
“I’ve missed you.”
Solomon had quite a bit to say about our words:
Those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.
(Proverbs 11:25, NLT)Kind words are like honey – sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.
(Proverbs 16:24, NLT)A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
(Proverbs 25:11, KJV)
Since reading those three words, I have found myself so grateful to have read them. They spoke more deeply than the blogger could have imagined. They were words fitly spoken. I finally, fully and completely, understand the meaning of this Scripture …
Our words can stand out from all the others.
Much like golden apples would stand apart in a painting, our words when spoken at the opportune time, will stand apart from the words spoken by others. They can bury deeply into the heart of another, to be cherished and retrieved as needed.
May we think about others in our lives, who may need a kind word, an encouraging word to get them through their day. Don’t ever discount the power in your words. Even three little words …
“I’ve missed you.”

You’re back!!!! My inbox was unhappily empty the last two days!
Nice to know you missed me 🙂 I love you & thank you for the ginger ale! Loved seeing my little loves!
Nothing like those words that let us know we are seen, and needed, and loved, and treasured. Whether they are words from our Father or words we say to one another. Lovely post, Joanne!
Holly, it is amazing how words are needed and treasured. May we never be stingy with words which speak life! So glad you shared!
You’re my neighbor at TWW today, and I actually read your words in my feed before visiting you as my neighbor – isn’t this a joy, this community of bloggers? It certainly makes me feel good when I am acknowledged in some way, however few words it takes. Here are a couple more simple, yet powerful three-worders: I love you. I see you. You are special. You are mine.
I love reading your thoughts, Joanne.
I loved that you shared more words we can encourage one another with! May we use them liberally & sincerely to bless those around us! Thank you so much, Pamela!
It’s amazing the power each word can hold. A weapon or a balm… so beautiful.
Thank you, Kaitlyn. May God use our words as we each participate in the snail mail project. May our words be a balm, always. So glad you visited me today!
Isn’t it a wonderful feeling to know that we mattered to someone, that someone is glad to see us. And we should all be mindful of say more of these things when we feel them, to not left any good thing go unsaid.
It is so true! As much as we desire to hear it said to us, may we remember others need to hear it as well. I’m with you…may we not leave any good thing unsaid. So glad you shared!
