Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is: Without.
To be without is to have the absence of something or someone.
The disciples had done three years of living with Jesus. He was there for the journeys, for each healing, the miracles, and the words He spoke with them each day.
He brought them hope of a better life, joy in every experience, and gave them worth for they were on a mission with Him.
And then He was crucified and gone from this world.
For three days, they mourned the loss of Him. They were not sure what they were supposed to do in order to move forward with their lives.
I would not want to live without Jesus in my life. It would mean a life without salvation, without hope, without peace, without joy, and without purpose.
Jesus endured unimaginable pain and suffering
so that we would never have to live a day
without Him.
“Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.” (Hebrews 12:2, NLT)
The word prompt brought this song to mind …

Today I may be joining: Five Minute Friday .
What would I be without You?
Don’t ever want to know,
’cause my guess is I would be through,
and may as well just go
to that awful resting place
(or rusting place, more apt)
where alone and shorn of grace
I would simply be trapped
by the vines grown in despair,
by kudzu and by thorn,
breathing fetid swamp-grown air
on which dank death is borne…
when Lo! and Hark! and Suddenly!
You’re at my side, to set me free.
Powerful reminder, Joanne.
What a wonderful word from above. Thank you for that, sis. It never occurred to me, until now, that the disciples didn’t know what to do next. That must have been challenging. But they, like us, had the joy of knowing that Jesus would come back to them again. God bless, Love G
