The word prompt was before me for days, and yet, I had not written a word. The thoughts stayed stuck in my head, drawing me to think on them often.
The word was ‘might’.
Defining the word in my own mind reminds me of probability or possibility.
- “I might do the laundry today.”
- “I might get to paying the bills later on.”
- “I might finish reading that book this afternoon.”
- “I might, I might, I might …”
It can be filled with many various responsibilities or tasks. Often we have the freedom to choose how we will fill our day.
And then it hits me: “I might ask for prayer.”
It is a small prayer group, but mighty in praying. When a prayer need is put before us, we do not need to wonder if we will pray for that need. There is no question if it will probably be prayed for as it will.
“One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” (Proverbs 18:24, NIV)
We need those who are reliable to pray. Those are the most precious friendships or relationships we can have in our lives. Their prayers can strengthen, lift, encourage, and comfort us. Those prayers are a gift no words can fully express.
“Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.“ (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, NIV)
How did I never take note of the way these verses are laid out before me in Scripture?
- Rejoice always.
- Pray without ceasing.
- In everything give thanks.
They sit like three commands, and here is the thing – “this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.“
It’s been days that the tabs have been open on my laptop with these Scriptures. Days of ruminating and ingesting these words. The choice is made: “I might just spend the day praying for each one who comes to mind.”
Let’s be reliable friends.
Ones who pray without ceasing for each other,
for this is God’s will for us.
Easter has come and gone. So what now? Pam Ecrement reminds us: “You and I are still a part of that “going on” in this present hour.” Her words will encourage and strengthen you. You can read her post HERE.
