Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Engage.
The dictionary defines ‘engage’ as “being deeply busy or occupied or involved with” (dictionary.com).
We know when we do not have the full attention of another. And to be honest, it is important that we give our full attention to one another.
No better example is given us than from God Himself – who gives us His undivided attention. Throughout the Psalms, we see the words, “I called” and “He heard”. We pray with an expectancy of receiving God’s attention.
“Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord gave attention and heard it …” (Malachi 3:16, NASB)
The people were talking with each other and yet, the Lord paid attention to all they were saying. It mattered to Him that His people were talking. It was important to Him to hear what was being said. He was fully engaged.
Being in close proximity physically does not constitute relationship. Being physically in the same room, at the same table, in the same house is not the same as being fully engaged.
May we learn from the example God has provided
and be attentive, truly listening,
and fully engaged with one another.
Liked “Being in close proximity physically does not constitute relationship.”
Amen to just being physically present is not the same as being engaged.
Thanks for sharing.
I have made it kinda hard
to be overlooked.
My biker beard stretches a yard,
and my scars have people spooked,
and so they step out of the way
and do so awful fast,
’cause doing otherwise does not pay
when I come growling past.
But I am really not unkind,
won’t shoulder them aside,
and they maybe just might find
that I have an open mind
and with bonhomie and good cheer
would gladly taste their fav’rite beer.
oh, much truth there. Being there is not the same as truly “being” in the moment there with all senses engaged. FMF9
