Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is …Satisfied.
Satisfied, according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is defined as “pleased or content with what has been experienced or received.”
Earlier this morning, I read Ecclesiastes 2:1-11.
The writer of this book is Solomon, and we might call him “the man who had everything.” In these few verses, he tells us all he had accumulated.
He had wealth, power, wives, and pleasures. He collected for himself whatever he desired or thought would bring satisfaction in his life. All to no avail.
It was verse 11 which had my attention:
“Thus I considered all my activities which my hands had done and the labor which I had exerted, and behold all was vanity and striving after wind and there was no profit under the sun.” (NASB)
Solomon discovered that all his accomplishments, and all he had accumulated, were meaningless. They did not leave him satisfied, nor did he find they had any true and lasting worth.
In the margin of my Bible next to verse 11, I wrote three words:
“Do what counts.”
Seek God and His purposes,
and you will be satisfied in life.

Today I may be joining …
I love this and this was something I also thought about when I was writing my prompt. I have a greater manner of being satisfied when I most connected to God and His creation vs. the material things of life that leave a short satisfaction.

Our pastor is taking us through the book of Ecclesiastes. One of his encouragements last Sunday was that ‘Your enjoyment is a gift from God’. Enjoy what you have even if it is a little.
Have a great day!
Amen! ❤️ G
