It snowed the other day. We woke to a morning of bright sunshine amidst about six inches of snow. The sun came glistening through the branches of the trees in the woods, setting a beautiful reminder of a favorite verse:
“Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.”
(Psalm 51:7, NASB)
It reminded me of laundry.
There was a time when laundry was major at my house. Piles of laundry. It always seemed like I would never see the hamper empty. Our son played a sport every season throughout high school. It didn’t take long for me to learn laundry can grow quicker than yeast can grow bread.
Not so much these days with just the two of us now. The piles are smaller. Much smaller.
I headed to our laundry room, remembering there was a wash waiting for me. It was then that I thought, “I am so glad our God does laundry as well.”
I can air my “dirty laundry” with Him and know that He holds it safe. It doesn’t get repeated to cause me shame and/or embarrassment. Once told to Him, He tends to it. Scripture tells me:
“He gave up his life for her (speaking of the Church) to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word. He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault.’ (Ephesians 5: 25-27, NLT)
Christ does laundry.
I have been the recipient of Him washing me whiter than snow, removing all stain of my sins.
I have applied spot remover to favorite shirts. Often it seemed like a particular stain would be impossible to get out. Oh the joy and relief that was felt, when pulling it out of the washing machine, the stain was gone and the shirt was saved.
And I have known that very same joy, each and every time I have come to Him to repent and ask for cleansing. The stain is lifted.
“Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city.” (Revelation 22:14, NASB)
Blessed relief.
Our robes has been washed.
He makes us whiter than snow.
Morning is my best time – it is the evening where I struggle more if I am reading. Then my eyes begin to close. In her post, Cultivating Awe of God’s Word (HERE), Barbara Harper offers several encouraging suggestions to refuel your time in God’s Word.

Thanks so much for mentioning my post!
I have known that blessed relief, too, of being washed clean. What a gracious Savior.
This is a beautiful analogy, Joanne. What a blessing to be able to “air our dirty laundry” with Jesus and know that He knows exactly how to treat every stain and struggle. I’m so thankful for your words every week.
Joanne, I love laundry! Of all my chores laundry is my all-time favorite, even when it seemed a never-ending mountain when the kids were young. Just like we wash our clothes over and over again, God is faithful to forgive us our sins, but also “cleanse” us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)
I’m so glad He never tires of doing laundry!
Joanne, that winsome image up top was such a treat when I arrived here earlier this morning. You captured my heart with its bright welcoming picture and hopeful verse. A sweet start to the day!
We recently had snow, Joanne, and it reminded me of the verse in Isaiah, “Come now, and let us reason together,’ says the Lord, ‘Though your sins are scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they will be like wool.” Gratitude fills my heart when I think of all He has done for us.
Love your laundry and snow connection. It snowed here last night. Sparkling now reminds me of how Isaiah used snow to describe God’s work in our lives!
Joy and relief! YES!
And isn’t it lovely to have reached a point in life when we can THINK about laundry instead of constantly DOING laundry?!
Oh, my – I so understand those piles of laundry – the socks always tripping me up. You write, “I can air my “dirty laundry” with Him and know that He holds it safe.” – How I am so glad that He doesn’t berate me and rub my nose in my “dirty laundry” – that He is the safe space for it and knows all the way to treat the spills and stains of the day. I love that photo – so refreshing.
A great analogy Joanne! I’m sure glad Jesus does laundry & spot cleaning too!
Blessings sweet friend,
Jennifer
Love the scriptures you shared and this analogy. Grateful, though our sins are as scarlet, he washes them white as snow. Isaiah 1:18
Joanne this is beautiful! Now that I reflected on this I’m overjoyed Christ does laundry.
