Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Long.

Long – first thought to come to mind was a desire or want. But the more I sat pondering the word, it came to me that it can also be an extension of distance or time.

And then the two converged …

During this time of Advent, our thoughts turn to Jesus’ birth. The people truly longed for a Messiah, the Messiah, to come as was told to them by the prophets.

Many longed for a ruler to set them free, to right the wrongs, and so rejected Jesus, the very One they had longed for to come.

Perhaps we are no different than those who were waiting at that time.

As we read and watch the news, both local and worldwide, we long for changes and particular rulers. May we keep our hearts and minds focused on just One and long for Him alone.

“Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”
(2 Timothy 4:8, NIV)

May we long for His appearance,
His return, and pray –
Come Jesus Come.
