Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Two.
The word prompt causes my thoughts to remember Sunday School flannelgraph images of the animals walking two by two into the ark.
And then they quickly turned to other thoughts.
It was during the pandemic when I joined the church’s online prayer group. It was such a comforting and encouraging way to see and join with others for the prayer requests of our families, communities, church, and the world.
“For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.”
(Matthew 18:20, NASB)
Jesus reminds us not only of the need and power of prayer, but that He Himself is there with us as we pray together.
Others also remind us of our great need to pray together:
“Nothing tends more to cement the hearts of Christians than praying together. Never do they love one another so well as when they witness the outpouring of each other’s hearts in prayer.” (Charles Finney)
“God shapes the world by prayer. The prayers of God’s saints are the capital stock of heaven by which God carries on His great work upon earth.” (E.M. Bounds)
“Prayer is the greatest gift we can give to anyone.” (Stormie Omartian)
“And when two or three of you are together because of me,
you can be sure that I’ll be there.”
(Matthew 18:20, MSG)
Amen! Love this perspective. Thanks for sharing, Joanne!
Thank you for this reminder of how praying together makes a big difference!
We are so blessed by praying with others!
Our Lord is with us when “two or three are gathered,” and we know He is with us when we’re alone or in a big group. We are so blessed!
What a beautiful application for the number two!
Beautiful. I smiled with the beginning of your post because it brought back memories of Sunday school. I too joined an online Bible study at church during the pandemic, and I love the extra layer of community it has brought me.
