Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Same.
Earlier this morning, this sentence stood out from my devotional reading:
“…we are gloriously uncertain of the next step, but we are certain of God.”
(Oswald Chambers, Still Higher for His Highest)
Life is full of uncertainties, of that we can be certain. Change can occur in the middle of the most seemingly normal day.
My problem is my desire for life to remain the same.
When change arrives on the scene, it also brings uncertainty. We begin to wonder about how a situation will work out, if it will work out. We question ourselves, the decisions we have made in the past, and maybe we even question God.
But here is the wonderful reminder brought by today’s prompt:
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.“ (Hebrews 13:8, NASB)
The same devotional closed with this thought:
“He packs our lives with surprises all the time.”
So true, and not all the surprises are pleasant or wanted. But we can be assured that all the surprises are planned by His love and for our good.
Now I am humming, “Learning to lean. Learning to lean. I’m learning to lean on Jesus. Finding more power than I ever dreamed. I’m learning to lean on Jesus.”
Life is filled with uncertainty.
May we learn to lean on Jesus –
the One who remains the same always.

Today I may be joining …
“Change can occur in the middle of the most seemingly normal day.” So true.
Life is full of surprises.
I’m so grateful Jesus is always the same.
Yes. Excellent reminder that Jesus is the One that stays the Same. When change comes I panic (inside, hidden from view), and then I try to take control of the situation (intense anger, lashing out). But I’ve been learning from Him and breathing more …
I’m so thankful for the love and guidance of our never-changing God.
The snow melts to rise as lake-steam,
and the same snow
falls on the same peaks.
When I’m comfortable and happy I want my circumstances to tstay the same, but that’s impractical. Finding peace and contentment in God – who never changes! – is much better. Loved this post! Visiting from FMF#14
