Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Reverse.
Having stared at the word for a good amount of time, I turned to the dictionary (merriam-webster) for some help:
- “opposite or contrary to a previous or normal condition“
- “to turn completely about in position or direction“
There have surely been times in my life where I made choices contrary to what would have been normal or right. In other words, they were unwise choices. They were the reverse of what should have been decided or settled upon.
At some point along the way, I had to turn completely around. In other words, I had to reverse the direction I was headed.
Using both definitions, there are times we need to reverse and return to where we went off course. We return to the Y in the road, or the crossroads, to see where our error was made and we get back on track.
“Thus says the Lord, “Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, Where the good way is, and walk in it; And you will find rest for your souls.” (Jeremiah 6:16, NASB)
“The mind of man plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9, NASB)
Remember from whence you came.
Reverse direction,
and Return.

Today I may be joining …
Remember from whence you came.
Reverse direction,
and Return.
My daughter did a 180 when she turned 16 and still hasn’t returned. One summer, she is on a mission trip; the next, she is drinking and doing drugs. Her pride keeps her from returning, praying for her return.
Rhonda, I am so sorry. Praying for her this afternoon that she would have a change of heart and return. {hug}
Yes, good thoughts. I like your take on “reverse.” Made me think of things in a different way. One of the phrases that has been playing in my head is “go back to the beginning” and I’m asking God to remind me of the things He has told me to do, but a while ago. And God is faithful, and He does, because He knows I am a bear of little brain! Thank you!
Rachel, as I kept thinking about the word prompt throughout the day, “go back to the beginning” also came to mind. Sometimes we need to return to what we knew to do.So simple and yet, we sure can complicate this walk with Him, can’t we?
We all have moments we need to reverse. I’m thankful God waits for us to remember and return.
Yes, reversal can be turning to go the correct (God’s) way, or to turn away from God’s way and back to our own way. I made several reversals back and forth throughout my teenage years. God doesn’t turn His back on us though.
