Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Complicate.
I define the word as to make something more difficult than it actually may be.
And I certainly can tend do this when it comes to prayer. Yet Scripture simplifies prayer for us.
The word prompt is such a good reminder this morning to not complicate prayer. Prayer is conversation with God, who knows our hearts and every need.
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30, NASB)
“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” (Hebrews 4:16, NLT)
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7, NASB)
Let’s not complicate prayer.
Simply come and talk with God,
Who will listen and bring His mercy, rest, and peace.
What a beautiful reminder about prayer. Thank you for the encouragement today. 🙂
It’s all so bloody complicated,
all this stuff on Godly prayer,
and everything seems obfuscated,
so someone, won’t you clear the air?
Aha, a preacher on TV!
You’ll show me how to pray my best,
and give a tip or two for free
with VISA number for the rest.
Something does not here seem right,
that prayer should be quite so arcane,
a secret hidden in the night,
known only to the kind of brain
that wants to keep the good it knew
known only to privileged few.
So true and a great blessing. The verses you shared show the invitation to prayer.
Thank you for reminding us to keep it simple. I think most of society’s anxiety is from complicating things (too many options, to many experts, etc.). Thank you for sharing this encouragement! FMF#4
Thank you for this simple and beautiful encouragement. Prayer really doesn’t have to be complicated. Visiting from FMF#16
