Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Copy.
Copy = to imitate, reproduce, duplicate (from dictionary.com).
From the time we are born, we learn to copy. Babies copy our voice inflections and sounds. Actually, so much of their movements and actions are duplicated from what they see in us.
We often want to duplicate hair and fashion styles to put our best foot forward.
We use a copier machine to replicate important papers.
Sadly, we can often copy the behaviors of those around us. This is where we have to be on our guard or we will become like the society around us.
But what if we were to copy the behavior of Another?
“If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you.”
(John 13:13-14, NASB)
What if we were to copy the example of Jesus and wash feet,
serve others,
and love well?
That’s the question I’m pondering today.

Today I may be joining …
I really wanna copy Christ,
I think that would be really neat,
but part of this seems overpriced,
and I don’t want to wash your feet.
Now, granted, these ain’t olden days
when foot-smell could stun a camel,
but nothing is the Bible says
we must have noses like enamel
impervious to absence
of good ol’ Dr. Scholl,
and it’s only common sense
to avoid your toes and sole
and olfactory complaint
so at your feet I do not faint.
Oh my gosh, Andrew, how you made me laugh, literally, out loud. The mention of camels … when my husband and I were in China, they were everywhere and I found them to be just awful. Oh but think feet, baby feet, the feet of your pups and of dear friends. Now those are feet I bet you would rub and serve.
Thanks for the laugh, Andrew!
“Sadly, we can often copy the behaviors of those around us. This is where we have to be on our guard or we will become like the society around us.” Well said. We need to be on guard and be thoughtful about what it means to image the One who made us.
Great blog. I want to copy Jesus and spread His love to others. That is why I copy a hymn or a page out of my devotional and post it on Facebook or text it to my friends and family. I think my posts are encouraging, inspiring, and convicting even if they are not my original thoughts.

He is worth emulating, Joanne!
Great question to ponder, Joanne.
Yes, He is our example and we are to imitate Him. We’re pondering on a similar path. A good word and I appreciate the examples of children imitating what they see and hear.
Bless you! Lisa #fmf neighbor
