She wanted to make cookies together. Knowing exactly what she would need, she grabbed a bowl and the whisk. She stood waiting at the counter for me to grab everything else.
As the ingredients went into the bowl, she whisked. She knew to cut the butter into the dough with the blades of the whisk. She did well blending it all, considering she was only four years of age.
When the cookies were made, she waited for them to bake, cool, and then asked for one. With a mouth full of cookie, she commented, “These came perfect! They are delicious.”
She then quickly added, “It is because I am the best whisker!”
We laughed together as she thoroughly enjoyed her cookie.
It has also had thoughts stirring for a few days.
We truly each have a role, a gift, or a talent in life. We need one another. Not one of us can do everything. The Apostle Paul knew this well and wrote:
“I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth. Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.” (1 Corinthians 3:6-9, NASB)
What can we learn from these Scriptures?
- There are many different parts of a family, of a company, of a church. Each part is vital and needed.
- There must be unity for there to be success. Each part has to be working towards the same end goal.
- We all need to remember that while we are needed, and we all do our part, only God can bring about the growth or success. Our efforts apart from God’s blessing would fail.
May we all embrace our part,
and fulfill the purposes God has planned.
And yes, Eliza, you are the best whisker!

What a precious memory for you and Eliza, Joanne. I love her confidence; she knows she is loved. And thank you for the reminder that “only God can bring about the growth or success.” I need that today. Hugs, friend.
She truly is a confident little girl 🙂 And I am so excited to see what God is going to do through @RememberingOurParents !
“I am the best whisker” – that goes straight to my heart! What beautiful relationship and memories you are stirring up! We can only do with the opportunities God gives us – and He takes it from there, cooking up something lasting! This fed me today, my friend.
Maryleigh, only you could come up with all these puns 🙂 I love it!
yes and amen to embracing our part, our call, our tasks in the season we find ourselves in. like the one we’re living right now.
Amen! Every season has a purpose.
Hooray, Eliza! You are a blessing!
Thank you, Joanne, for your faithful service to your family AND your readers!
Michele, I loved seeing your baking story with your own granddaughter as well 🙂
What a beautiful declaration of love and acceptance as Eliza basks in her Grandma’s love!
Lisa, I think it is me who did most of the basking 🙂 I have so loved my time with each of our three granddaughters. They have given me the memories, laughs, and love of a lifetime.
What a sweet moment with your granddaughter. And a good reminder that God wants each to do his or her part, but ultimately results are from Him.
Yes, Barbara, truly – may we each do our part and leave the rest to Him.
I love this analogy. I was editing a post on spiritual gifts recently and so I found your thoughts very helpful, especially about the importance of all having the same goal.
A sweet story with a powerful application. Thank you, Joanne. Enjoy those special moments!
