The Psalms are a much beloved book of the Bible because we can find comfort, strength, and wisdom for any circumstance in life. Every human emotion is contained in these 150 chapters.

For the next six weeks, we will be sinking into the study Delight: A Walk Through the Psalms: 1-30, by The Daily Grace Co.

It is the largest book of the Bible (150 chapters), with Isaiah being the second largest (66 chapters).
It was written by several different authors and in different time periods, which I found most interesting to discover.

“The primary purpose of the Book of Psalms is found in its intensely God-centered focus to direct our hearts toward Him in every experience of life.”

(from The Holman Old Testament Commentary, Vol. 11, page 4)

Maybe this quote will resonate with you as it did with me.

“The psalms teach us to seek God with a whole heart, to tell Him the truth and tell Him everything, and to worship Him, because of who He is, not just, because of what He gives. They show us how to accept trials and turn them into triumphs, and when we’ve failed, they show us how to repent and receive God’s gracious forgiveness.”
(Warren Wiersbe)

A few more quotes to whet your appetite for the Book of Psalms:

“The first psalm says to God’s person, “Life is worth living for God,” and the final psalm says to God’s people, “Don’t worry – this is the way the story will end. We shall all be praising the Lord!”
(Warren Wiersbe)

“Psalms have a powerful way of calming us and reminding us that God has everything under control. We may have to make a hard decision or act with courage in a situation, but spending time in the Psalms will prepare us to recognize God no matter what circumstances we eventually face.” (Warren Wiersbe)

Our hope and prayer as we study this book of the Bible is that we will find wisdom and truths to apply to our lives in these days we are living.
